MOQ is one of the MOST misunderstood parts of buying wholesale.

And no… there isn’t one magical number that means you’re officially “buying wholesale.”

On Faire: you might have to buy products in sets AND meet a minimum dollar amount before you can check out.

On Alibaba: A supplier might have an MOQ of 1, 50, 500, 1,000 or 10,000+ units.

Because Alibaba and Faire aren’t the ones setting the rules. You’re dealing with individual businesses… (and on Alibaba…. factories, manufacturers, trading companies, wholesalers and retailers) Each one decides what quantities make sense for their business.

If you want to learn my sourcing framework, understand the differences between factories, trading companies and wholesalers, and learn what you should actually be looking for when sourcing, grab my book!

✨ If you’re ready to actually DO the sourcing and want more support while you do it, come join us inside The Wholesale Alternative. 💗

PLUS Inside the membership, you’ll get the sourcing education AND my supplier conversation scripts so you know what to actually SAY when you’re talking to suppliers (it’s just copy and paste mad lib stule) and you have somewhere to ask questions when you get stuck.

Because knowing what to do is one thing.
✨ Knowing what to say, what to ask, and what to do next when a real supplier is sitting in your inbox is another.

Replying to Decal Co LLC yuuuuup you’re totally right…

If your sea freight quotes have been making you 😳 🤮 lately… you’re not imagining it.

The ongoing conflict with Iran and disruptions to major shipping routes are putting additional pressure on global shipping costs AND unfortunately I don’t think this is something product-based businesses should plan on magically disappearing next week. So… lock in. 😬

the “silver lining” is that you aren’t the only business paying it. Your competitors have to deal with increased freight costs too.

Businesses with inventory stockpiled or enough reserves may be able to absorb those increases for a while, we watched something very similar happen during COVID. Some businesses held their pricing longer than others, but eventually costs caught up and prices changed.

This is also why understanding your landed cost matters SO much when sourcing.

Your product isn’t $3 just because the factory charged you $3.

Freight, duties, tariffs, fees… all of it matters when you’re deciding whether a product actually makes financial sense.

If you’re new to sourcing and want to understand how this whole process works, I have a FREE 30-minute Sourcing for Beginners training.

Replying to ems Is Faire too expensive? Sometimes. 🤷‍♀️

But I don’t think that means Faire is a bad option or that every product-based business owner should immediately stop using it.

If you’re brand new, testing products, ordering small quantities, or running a subscription box where you might only need 7–10 of something, Faire can be an AMAZING resource for those businesses.

But I agree with you that as your business grows, there comes a point where buying wholesale from another company doenst make financial sense.

Instead of buying from a wholesaler who already added their markup, you can learn how to find and work directly with factories and manufacturers yourself.

If that sounds intimidating for anyone out there I made a FREE 30-minute Sourcing for Beginners training that walks you through how this world actually works and where to start.

Remember when that Etsy or Shopify notification used to make you SO excited?

And now sometimes your first thought is…

“Ugh. Now I have to make it.” 😅

You might have outgrown making every single product yourself.

You can still be the creative behind your brand without being the person physically producing every item that gets ordered.

Learning how to work with factories and manufacturers can give you back the time to actually design, create, market, grow AND enjoy your business again.

If you’ve been wondering how people actually go from making products themselves → having them manufactured, start with my brand-new FREE Sourcing for Beginners training.

Replying to I am so so sorry.

Getting scammed SUCKS and unfortunately there is no way to eliminate every single risk when sourcing overseas (or non overseas)

But there ARE things you can do to protect yourself and significantly reduce the chances of something going wrong.

If you’re new to Alibaba, Trade Assurance + Verified Supplier should be two of the first filters you turn on. They are NOT the only things I look at when vetting suppliers BUT they’re a really good place to start with.

After 10+ years of buying on Alibaba, one of the biggest things I’ve learned is that sourcing safely isn’t about finding some magical “perfect” supplier… it’s about knowing what to look for, what questions to ask, and what protections to put in place BEFORE you send money.

And that’s a skill you can learn.

I have a FREE Sourcing for Beginners training where I break down the basics and help make this whole process feel a lot less overwhelming.

Replying to this is such a normal feeling and problem to have! It took me probably well over a year if not too until I finally stopped being able to feel this way and I was able to actually let go of the FOMO that if I just kept scrolling for a few more minutes and I just kept looking for a couple hours that I would find “the one”

That one most perfect factory or trading company that would solve all my problems and would be the exact one that I was meant to be working with and supposed to be working with… But after literally hundreds of searches, I was finally able to accept that the elusive perfect factory does not exist… Because there are actually hundreds of options.
