✨ Well… I suppose it’s probably time I actually introduce myself. ✨
If you’re new around here, you’ve probably seen the bread. Maybe you’ve seen the runes. Maybe you’ve watched me throw increasingly questionable ingredients into sourdough and somehow make it work. 😂
But you may not know the two characters behind Dough Deities.
So… hi. 👋🏻 I’m Harlee.
And the tiny escaped bread demon in the other picture?
That’s Artemix. 😂🥖
She’s my sourdough starter, and honestly, calling her “my starter” makes it sound like I’m in charge.
I am not.
Artemix has been with me for a little over three months now, and she came into my life after my first starter, Aphrodite, never quite made it to the baking stage.
Artemix, however, apparently arrived with a fu***ng agenda.
She started producing strong, beautiful loaves ridiculously early. She loves whole wheat. She prefers lower-hydration dough. She does not operate on a clock. She has opinions. And, as you can clearly see, she occasionally attempts to escape containment.
So naturally, I decided to build a micro-bakery around her. 🤣
Welcome to Dough Deities. 🌾🔮🥖
Dough Deities is my little spiritual micro-bakery where sourdough, creativity, intention, and a little bit of magic get thrown into the same mixing bowl.
I bake everything by hand, from simple sourdough and honey wheat to specialty inclusion loaves that sometimes start with:
“I wonder if this would work…”
…and end with me standing in the kitchen yelling:
“OH MY GOD. IT WORKED.”
😂
But there’s another part of Dough Deities that is especially important to me.
Every loaf gets a rune carved into the top.
I’m not doing a full rune reading with your bread. Instead, each rune carries a simple intention or symbolic message.
Algiz — protection.
Wunjo — joy.
Raidho — movement, journey, direction.
It’s my way of sending a little something extra along with the loaf.
Because bread is already something deeply human. We make it with our hands, we share it with people we love, and somehow a simple loaf can become part of a memory.
I want Dough Deities to feel like that.
Something made by a real person, with real hands, real intention, and occasionally a completely unhinged idea for a flavor. 😂
And yesterday was a pretty damn big moment for me.
I delivered my first ever Dough Deities order to someone who wasn’t a close friend or family member.
That might sound small to some people.
It wasn’t small to me.
I stood there holding bread that I made, for a person who trusted me enough to order it, and realized…
Holy s**t. I actually built a little bakery.
It started with me learning sourdough.
Then came Artemix.
Then came the experiments.
Then the runes.
And now there are actual people eating bread that came out of my kitchen.
So if you’re new here:
Welcome. 🖤
I’m Harlee.
That’s Artemix.
This is Dough Deities.
And we’re just getting started. 🥖✨🔮
Now excuse me while I go make sure Artemix hasn’t escaped again.
