I thought it might be time to reintroduce myself: Hi, I’m Holley, the Prior Potter behind Prior Potter Pottery (yes, Potter is my maiden name, & yes, I absolutely leaned into it).
I throw pottery on the wheel because I love making things that are meant to be held, used, and lived with. I’m drawn to simple, functional forms that don’t stay empty for long. My cups, bowls, vessels invite texture, growth, and a personality.
I’m interested in how clay remembers pressure, how small adjustments change everything, and how useful objects can still feel alive. I care about balance, weight, & the quiet satisfaction of a form that feels perfectly right in your hands. Some pieces stay clean and straightforward; others grow vines, tentacles, or details that feel slightly unexpected. I like that tension between function and imagination & I let that guide my work.
I enjoy the challenge of a commission. Keeping my client in mind, I love to put little pieces of their personality in every detail so they can have exactly what they want in a meaningful, functional piece of art.
I offer one-on-one and small class (4 people max) ceramics lessons because I believe learning works best when it’s personal.
In my classes, we focus on process over perfection. I’ll help you build technical skills on the wheel, but I’m just as interested in how you learn, what you notice, & what kind of maker you want to be. Whether you’re brand new to clay or looking to refine your throwing, I meet you where you are & adjust each lesson to your pace and goals.
I’m patient, observant, & honest and I promise clay will humble us both at some point. We’ll troubleshoot together, celebrate small wins, & make space for mistakes, because that’s where most of the learning actually happens. And who doesn’t love a happy little accident?
My goal isn’t to teach you my style. It’s to help you develop confidence, curiosity, and a relationship with clay that feels sustainable & rewarding. If you like thoughtful process, functional pottery, & learning in a calm, encouraging environment, you’re probably in the right place.
