steps + why it’s important 🫧
Cleaning your range hood filters is one of those small kitchen tasks that makes a big difference. Your filters help trap grease, smoke, odors, and cooking buildup. When they’re dirty, your hood has to work harder, airflow can slow down, and your kitchen may not feel as fresh after cooking.
There are a few different types of range hood filters:
Baffle filters: These are usually stainless steel, durable, and dishwasher-safe. They’re great for frequent cooking and don’t need to be replaced.
Mesh filters: These can be stainless steel or aluminum. They’re also usually dishwasher-safe, but grease can get stuck in the mesh, so soaking can help.
Charcoal filters: These are used in ductless range hoods. Unlike baffle and mesh filters, they should not be washed. They need to be replaced every few months, depending on how often you cook.
How to clean them:
Remove the filters from your range hood carefully.
If you have baffle or mesh filters, place them in the dishwasher or soak them in warm/hot water with dish soap.
For a deeper clean, add baking soda and let them soak before scrubbing with a soft brush or sponge.
Rinse well and dry completely with a soft towel or microfiber cloth.
Wipe down the area where the filters sit before placing them back.
If you have charcoal filters, replace them instead of washing them.
Pro tip: clean your filters every 1–3 months, or more often if you cook frequently with oil or high heat.
