Love checking on the progress of upholstered pieces. Looks so simple ~ to buzz by the workroom and the pieces are taking shape~
When in reality ~
The selected fabric took a month to find, then a large sample (36”x55”) had to be sent from the Houston Showroom as the faint chevron pattern didn’t show on the small sample (6”x6”) we were working from ~ and it was important (very important) that my Client and I saw it to make sure it was appropriate for her room.
Once the fabric was approved in her Family Room > the correct amount of yardage had to be found/ confirmed with the vendor ~ and then, a cutting was sent from the actual bolt of fabric in the warehouse (in Washington state) for color assurance. Good news is that the color, the hand of the fabric matched our working sample (it does’t always).
From the warehouse in Washington state ✈️it was sent to a vendor in Texas for added stain protection (for those red wine spills) and then to the workroom in San Antonio ✈️for upholstery.
Thus my excitement in seeing the progress today!
Took a quick look at my notes > and you know how long it took get this far? We started looking at fabrics this past January ... with completion slated for the end of this month. Almost six months!
My message? Custom work takes time. Is it worth it? Absolutely!!!
And I haven’t even mentioned (which is very important in the process) the background work being done simultaneously with the upholstery shop >> of which there is a lot! Measuring, figuring the yardage that would be needed to correctly (& beautifully) match the fabric repeat/pattern, repairs if necessary, changes in the fill and on and on.
It’s called custom upholstery for a reason.
And I love it!

Pics will be posted of completed sofas (before & after!)
