Now is the season to harvest for silk

One of the softest fabrics on the planet, shiny, breathable and comfortable, silk has been a highly prized cloth since it was first harvested thousands of years ago.

Do you know how row silk is made?

Silk is a natural protein fiber composed mainly of fibroin. It is produced by certain insect larvae who use it to create their cocoons. The best-known silk is the type obtained from the larvae of the species Bombyx mori. In English, this insect is known as Domestic silkmoth, and the larvae are referred to as silkworms even though they aren’t worms.

Domestic silkmoths have been selectively bred for the silk industry for millenia and are closely dependent on humans. The favorite food of the silkworm is white mullberry leaves, although they may eat other mulberry species in a pinch.

For those who miss poppy fields.

In the recent past, blooming of poppies and tulips was the most important day in the calendar of folk festivals in Eastern culture- when old and young gather together, and the young could look at each other from a distance.

Blooming poppies are a signal of the land that it is ready for the new cultivation season - villagers starting plowing.

The poppies on Susani is a sign that the girl has reached fertile age and is ready to get married.

Embroidery reflects a worldview of its creators and can tell no less than any written source.

ps. notice how accurate the color scheme is? scarlet flowers with green leaves on a background of straw color and indigo flashes randomly

Those Susani are the former collection of Ignacio Wok.

The word Tyubeteyka has Tatar roots, it came from the word "tybete", which means the peak.

Uzbeks call this headwear “kalpok” or “duppy”. Towards the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century, skullcaps gained great popularity in Central Asia, as well as many of their shapes and types: round, conical, pointed, square, elongated in the form of a dome.

The most common embroidery designs include a floral motif and an almond-shaped - a symbol of life and fertility.

“Ilon Izi" (snake trail) - a widespread pattern in the skullcap ornament. It is believed that it acts as a talisman.

Uzbek ornaments, as well as color schemes, also represent a great variety and their implementation depends on the region.
