MK Interiors: Where Full-Service Design Meets Personal Vision

Maria Kaplan's journey into interior design began in an unexpected place: flipping houses at age 26 in California. That hands-on experience taught her something invaluable that she still applies today at MK Interiors, her Southlake-based design firm.

Understanding not just what looks beautiful, but how spaces actually come together from start to finish.
"I started as a house flipper when I was 26 years old in California, and eventually moved into residential design when I moved to Texas 13 years ago," Maria explains. That transition brought her expertise to the Dallas-Fort Worth area, where she's been transforming homes ever since.
A Different Kind of Design Firm
What sets MK Interiors apart in the crowded world of interior design is its comprehensive approach. Maria describes her firm as a full-service interior design company specializing in kitchen and bathroom remodels for residential properties. "One of the things I really want people to know about MK Interiors is that we are a true full-service company," Maria emphasizes. "I act as more of a project manager and handle everything from soup to nuts. I'm not a traditional interior designer that comes up with a design plan and then hands it off to a contractor. I have a contractor partner, and we work hand-in-hand seamlessly to bring a project from conception to completion."

"I love the challenge of marrying the client's vision with the architecture of the house and guiding them towards a whole house perspective," she says. One project that stands out in her memory perfectly captures this philosophy: creating a book club and relaxation retreat for a client within her traditional home. "It was a really eclectic space that was unique to her style and a little quirky, but still fit in with the traditional feel of her home," Maria recalls. The result was a room where her client could host friends and find moments of personal escape, a space that was distinctly hers while remaining architecturally harmonious with the rest of the house.

Measuring Success
For Maria, successful projects go beyond beautiful finishes and on-trend fixtures. "A successful project for me is one where the client is extremely happy with the final results, including the design, but also the work that my contractor partner does to bring the vision to life," she explains. "Our ultimate sign of success is repeat customers and referrals."

I am super proud of the work that I do with Closet Factory, but more than anything, I appreciate the company culture and the desire and follow through in giving back to the community. Closet Factory Cares is partnered with Community Partners of Dallas, which is the organization that tends to children before they are moved into the foster care system. Most of these children come with just the clothes on their backs. For every project that we do, we donate a duffel bag to this organization. We’re stepping up with a little extra this time of year and filling those duffel bags (and new backpacks!) with back to school supplies. Today’s reveal from MK Interiors is this stunning master bathroom remodel in Justin, Texas. When a client comes to us as a referral by a family member, it really raises the bar for us. ❤️

This bathroom (see BEFORE pics in the comments)
was not functioning well for our clients. Not only was it outdated aesthetically, there were plumbing issues that had been addressed several times by other contractors that were never properly fixed, and just an overall misuse of space. What we created by removing the outdated and unused tub is a spacious, luxurious shower, (big enough for 💕 two) with a sloped beach entry. Using the decorative marble in just the shower helped keep us within budget while still allowing for other little luxuries like the beautiful lighted LED arched recessed medicine cabinets and this gorgeous fluted 84 inch vanity with quartz countertop. Adding wall to wall high gloss tile with a subtle warm vein to the ceiling while keeping the paint color neutral gives us the open spa like feeling that my client desired. This one investment is going to add tremendous value to the home!

Ai has transformed the client presentation in our industry, but sometimes it’s nice just to get back to basics. I’ve always loved the tactile, tangible experience of a good sample board. You just can’t replicate texture, even in a 3D rendering. This board is for a new dental office finish out. I included a lot of warm neutrals and calming blues and greens to settle any anxiety patients might be feeling.
