A 1908 Victorian with English influences and a decidedly modern point of view. Sculptural furnishings sit alongside traditional architectural detailing, while a curved sofa follows the sweep of the bay window. Different periods and sensibilities are brought together with a distinctly Californian informality.⁠

At Robert Mondavi Winery in Napa Valley, an architectural framework of concrete, steel, glass, and reclaimed wood gives way to a softer, distinctly Californian ease. A pair of leather-cord Blackman Cruz chairs punctuates the display, framing the landscape beyond.

A new chapter for a 1908 San Francisco Victorian.⁠

In Pacific Heights, an appreciation for English interiors meets the ease of California living. What began as a furnishings commission evolved into an extensive transformation, including relocating the kitchen to the former dining room, bringing everyday activity into a space once reserved for formal occasions.⁠
⁠
’s Willow Grove carries the green of the walled garden into the kitchen, drawing the eye toward the private patio. Then come the smaller surprises: a concealed hunter-green bar, a buttery-yellow scullery framed in seeded glass, and traditional detailing that lends the house its character.⁠

For the third year, two distinctions remain at Villa Passalacqua!⁠

is named No. 5 in 2026, holding The Best Hotel in Europe and Best Boutique Hotel for the third consecutive year. ⁠

Across the 18th-century villa, original frescoes and ceiling carvings mingle with Murano glass, gilded mirrors, antiques, and Italian craftsmanship. Nothing appears to have arrived all at once; the rooms have the particular character of a private house assembled over generations.⁠

Selected by an academy of 800+ hoteliers, journalists, and seasoned travelers, the annual ranking also places at No. 2, marking another year with two of our projects among the world’s top five. ⁠

The Great Room was conceived first and remains the room around which everything else turns. Rather than a single formal arrangement, distinct seating areas allow the room to shift easily from a dinner party to an afternoon with a book, a drink by the fire, or nothing on the agenda at all.

Hand-hewn reclaimed oak beams and Lutyens chandeliers give the room its scale, while an intentionally varied mix of furnishings keeps the atmosphere informal. A room designed not for a single purpose, but for the many ways a house is actually lived in.

A game table when competition calls, a tucked-away banquette for a drink, and a travertine-clad spa when it doesn’t. Walnut, deep blue, and tactile upholstery carry a common vocabulary throughout, creating spaces that feel like an extension of home rather than a departure from it.
