Hello everyone!

As we are now heading into the 2016 holiday season I want to showcase a few items that make wonderful gifts or stocking stuffers!

Shawls and scarves are extremely fashionable right now and I have several beautiful options to choose from. Some are unique, made with hand-dyed yarn so no two are exactly alike.

All items are handmade with the highest quality natural yarns by me in my San Francisco studio. Happy Holidays, everyone!

Here is my finished Rose Garden beaded lace shawl: before blocking and during blocking.

Blocking is done to gently stretch a finished knit into its final measurements and shape. In the case of lace knitting, it also works to open up the lace pattern and allow it to really be seen.

I wash my knits in a gentle soap, squeeze out the excess water, then use blocking wires and pins to stretch it to its final length and width. After a couple days I remove the wires and pins, weave in the yarn ends, and then it is ready to be photographed for the shop!

I'm working on a new shawl I've named Rose Garden. I bought this beautiful hand - painted yarn from https://www.etsy.com/shop/HauteKnitYarn
on Etsy and decided it looked like flowers in a garden. So I've designed it with a beaded rose pattern bordered by climbing vines.

Beaded knitting is definitely more time consuming but I think the result with this shawl is totally worth it. As you can see, all the beads must be strung on the yarn before I start knitting, so figuring out the pattern perfectly ahead of time is essential. Then I count the pattern repeats, multiply by the number of beads per repeat and I have the number I need to string on the yarn.

In this case that number is 2300 beads. Wowza! I can't wait to show you the finished piece!

I finally finished my flames shrug prototype and I have to say I'm not as happy with it as I thought I would be. Maybe it's a little short? Maybe the edging lace is too wide? I can't seem to put a finger on what's bothering me about it.

What are your thoughts? Is there anything you would change?

I have been "working" on a shrug mock-up for months now. It is 90% done, I just need to finish attaching the trim. And yet it sits on my dressform, gathering dust. Every time I walk by it I say to myself: "I will get this done today." And then the day goes by, busy and full, and it remains unfinished.

I need to just buckle down and finish the trim. It is a beautiful piece and I worked very hard on designing it. The last 10% of any project always seems the hardest for me to complete.

Anyone else feel this way? I can't be the only one. :P
