Another great day at in Saranac Lake. It started off rainy, but by the end of the market the sun was trying to peek out. I met lots of new people today, including an adorable family who took home the piece in the middle. Mount Jo is a special place to them - they got engaged on top, did their gender reveal there, and have hiked it many other times. We chatted about our love of the area and how we hoped our kids would like the mountains as much as we do. Thank you for buying this piece, I really enjoyed our conversation and watching your little boy smile!

On Sunday night I displayed my art at the annual dinner for the I had a lot of fun talking to fellow 46ers about their time in the mountains. When talking about being a 46er, I feel like the most common question is "what was your favorite?" But I like to ask people what was their least favorite, or what was their most memorable (good or bad). The High Peaks are tough - the trails are steep, rocky, and muddy. There are often exposed scrambles, the bugs can be so bad you think they might carry you away, and some trails are very long. But that's what makes this journey so memorable, both the good and the hard. I had fun reminiscing about my own 46er journey and hearing about others.
This piece is a special one. Angie and Norm knew they wanted to finish on Grace Peak, and even before they had finished, they knew they wanted my art to celebrate their accomplishment. They celebrated in style at the top, packing in balloons and taking pictures with them. It was an honor to be able to make this piece for them. Also, aren't they the cutest?

My first outdoor market of the year was a good one, made even better because my little helper visited me! Thanks for having me! This is truly my favorite market - so many familiar faces, and lots of new ones too. I love chatting with everyone and sharing my love of wood and mountains. Thank you to everyone who stopped by my booth today and a special thank you to those who purchased my art. As always, feeling grateful! So excited for this summer. Also, I introduced a new product today, wooden vases/propagation stations - you can see them behind me. Finally making some of these things I've had in my head for years.

I'm pretty sure most intarsia artists number the individual pieces, but for some reason my brain says that would be slower. This took me just under 4 minutes to reassemble. I repeat a lot of my patterns, so I know them pretty well by now making it a pretty quick process. I do have one rather large pattern that I have to double check the key for some of the smallest pieces, but usually I can reassemble from memory. I love jigsaw puzzles, so it makes sense that I like this step. Sound on for some ASMR

I've finally restocked my website! All summer customers kept asking if I had a website, and my answer was "yes, but I don't have anything on it!" The summer is my busiest time, and it's just too much work to maintain my website and do in-person sales. I've been on maternity leave, but I was able to do two Christmas markets recently. Now that my markets are officially done for the year, I've restocked my website. I'm proud of how much art I was able to make this year, and glad that I have a few items to share with my online followers.
I can't believe I still have four of these Adirondack Park mountain ornaments left - they usually sell out immediately. Head on over to my website to snag one for yourself!

I had a special little visitor at my last market of the year. Grateful my husband takes such good care of her when I'm not home and for bringing her to visit me at work. Thank you to everyone who supported my small business this year, you are supporting my dreams and this perfect little family of mine.
I'm hoping to get my website restocked in the next few days, so keep an eye on social media for an update. I can't believe Christmas is only two and a half weeks away. I'm trying to make the most of this time with my little girl and make the season magical for her.

Thankful doesn't begin to cover it. Sometimes I still can't believe she's real. So grateful to have her in my life and to be raising her with my amazing husband. And I'm grateful for all of you. Thank you to every person who bought something from me this year - thank you for supporting my business and my little family. I know that it's getting harder and harder for people to make ends meet these days, so it makes me appreciate every purchase even more. Thank you for spending your hard earned money on my art and keeping your money in the local economy (and supporting the diaper fund!). Happy Thanksgiving everyone ❤️🦃

Thank you to everyone who purchased my art today! It was my first show back since my little girl was born and I appreciate the support. I'm thoroughly exhausted and I missed my little helper (this was my first event without her this year), but I'm filled with gratitude. It was a bit hard to get back into the swing of things after three months off - and the hardest part was probably socializing. My apologies for being awkward, I've pretty much only spent time with an infant for 10 weeks. Thank you so much to my followers who stopped by to say hi and/or buy something.
I wasn't able to make a ton of new art, but I was able to make enough. A huge thank you to my husband and mother for watching our girl so I could get some workshop time in. If you missed me today I have one more market this year, Sparkle Village in the Saranac Lake Town Hall on December 5 & 6.
PS Thank you to my husband for unloading the car so I could cuddle our daughter. Very appreciative to have such a supportive husband

I recently made this little guy as a thank you gift for one of my market friends. I had help from lots of people this summer and markets, but no one helped me more than Ken. I am notorious for refusing help, but when Ken found out I was pregnant he refused to take no for an answer - after he got over the initial shock! He helped me schlep all my stuff, assisted with setting up my tent, and always made sure I had a spot that was close to the parking area. Ken has a heart of gold and is a friend to everyone at the market. I wouldn't have made it through the summer without his help. I miss the beautiful summer days at the and all my market friends. Hopefully next summer Quinn will join me for some market days and get to know all her new aunties and uncles, especially her uncle Ken.

Just a quick post to show my proverbial face on here so Instagram doesn't punish me for not posting. I'm currently snuggling my baby and feeling grateful that I am able to make art for a living. I worked my tail off this summer, hardly taking any days off, making as much art as possible in anticipation of my maternity leave. It's been so great to slow down and enjoy this time with our little girl. Work schedules when you're self employed can be all over the place and include long days and weeks, but it also means that I can have flexibility as well. Our modern work culture makes it very difficult for working parents, with rigid work schedules and limited time off. Being an artist means that we have to live frugally, but money isn't the only way to be rich in life. I think we're pretty rich because I have the flexibility of time.
