Some auction days are air conditioned treasure hunts inside a building where we spend most of the day sitting and bidding on things we want.
Yesterday was NOT one of those days. 😂
My sister and I go to auctions almost every weekend hunting for treasures for our eBay business, and this week's auction was hot, humid, dirty, dusty and downright miserable. But it may also go down as one of our BEST treasure-hunting days ever.
Sitting on a trailer mixed in with old bottles, jars, signs and all kinds of miscellaneous stuff were two incredible Mid-Century Modern art glass decanters. They were dirty. They were dusty. And they would have been very easy to overlook.
But we saw them. 👀
5 (yes, FIVE) hours later, we had already bought pretty much everything else we wanted at the auction, but these two pieces hadn't sold yet—so we waited. And waited. In the heat. There was absolutely no way we were leaving without at least getting the chance to bid on them.
And... WE WON BOTH! 🙌
The green one is a highly sought-after Blenko Chess Piece decanter, and current estimates put its value at at least $1,000—and potentially $2,000 or more. Rather than trying to guess exactly where it belongs, we're planning to put it up for auction on eBay and let the collectors decide.
I have a feeling this is going to be a VERY fun auction to watch. 😍
Treasures like these don't come along every day—even when you're out looking for them nearly every weekend.
So yes... we came home sweaty, filthy and exhausted.
But it was a VERY GOOD day for The Pickin' Sisters. ❤️ One of those that keeps us doing what we do because it's so much fun :)
