Do you know what a Burlwood is? I came across this beautiful photo and wanted to share why our Interior Architectural Design firm is named Burlwood Studio!

A redwood burl is a rare and stunning wood formed from a growth on a redwood tree, where the grain twists and swirls into intricate, irregular patterns. These unique formations often result from the tree’s resilience to stress, injury, or environmental challenges.

The name Burlwood Studio is inspired by the beauty, strength, and adaptability of redwood burls. Just like these natural works of art, our designs are timeless, individual, and transformative—bringing elegance and artistry to every space we create. 🌿✨

This Saratoga home was a complete transformation, taken down to the foundation and reimagined from the ground up during my time with Remodel West. The clients dreamed of an open floor plan that embraced indoor-outdoor living, and we made it happen with stunning Nana doors that create a flush, seamless connection between the indoors and the backyard.

With little kids and rescue dogs in the mix, functionality was key! To keep the kitchen an adults-only zone, we designed custom integrated gates that can close off the space entirely when needed—practical and stylish.

The vibrant, playful touches don’t stop there! The kids' bathroom and laundry room were designed with personality and pops of color, bringing joy to everyday moments.

This project remains a favorite for its perfect blend of creativity, practicality, and family-friendly design.

Throwback to a home I designed in 2017!

This project was a total transformation—every inch of the house was gutted and replaced with fresh, much-needed finishes and fixtures. From the kitchen and laundry room to the bathrooms and all the flooring, we started from scratch and created something truly special.

One of my favorite features is the tri-color cabinetry in the kitchen. The dark blue cabinets recede, making the space feel larger, while the white upper cabinets blend seamlessly into the walls. This leaves the island and the framed tile behind the range as the stunning focal points.

It was a challenging yet rewarding project, and the end result was a home that feels both fresh and timeless. I’m still so proud of how it all came together!

Excited to share that Burlwood Studio was recently hired to help a local family transform their great room! It's a small, uniquely shaped space with tall ceilings, and they needed it to function much better for their needs.
The floorplan was too tight for a typical dining table and chairs, so I designed a custom banquette to maximize that awkward area next to the kitchen. Now, it doubles as a cozy dining spot that can easily accommodate more guests when needed.
In the living room, I placed a large L-shaped sofa over an even larger rug to create the illusion of a bigger space. This also ties the TV area, which is on the other side of the sliding doors, into the main living area. I added wallpaper behind the sofa and moved the patio door curtains higher to enhance those vertical lines, taking full advantage of the tall ceilings to make the whole room feel more expansive.
To top it off, I added paneling to the soffit above the kitchen cabinetry and installed pendants over the island. This not only makes the kitchen feel more defined but also anchors the space, making it feel more cohesive and spacious.
Thrilled with how it’s turning out and can't wait to see the final result!
