As we plan our gardens for next season… what's something you are **changing** for sure and/or something you are **sticking with**? 🤔
As I prep my new area I need all the thoughts!
and I'll give you one.
**Overhead water or drip?** 💧
Because apparently there is a *science* to this.
My whole back field is lost to frost, black and frozen. Meanwhile my front field is perfectly green and alive, like nothing happened. The difference? I started thinking.. my front field is mainly cuttings.. was that it? Nope because I still also have tuber planted there and they are fine, not that. Another factor, I overhead water my front field and run drip in the back.
So naturally I had to do some digging (pun intended 😏) because I was stumped. Turns out wet soil holds heat way longer than dry soil. It's thermal mass. My overhead watered soil stayed warmer all night, while the drip field's dry surface just dumped its heat straight to the sky. Plus the front field gets radiant heat off the house all night long.
Did this one difference in watering actually buy my front field extra time?? Mind blown 🤯
So tell me… what's one thing you're changing next season, or one thing you'll never give up? And do you prefer overhead watering or drip.. because I’m highly debating this if I can extend my growing season.
Drop it below, I need all the ideas! 👇
Attached photos are front and back field. And yes!! I even had a butterfly today enjoying my bloomz!
