My goal is for KMI to be a genuinely warm place to work. Where I see each person not just as a designer, but as a whole human whose value reaches far beyond what they produce. In practice, that means honoring work-life balance and truly connecting, person to person.

And I've found this kind of care has a way of spilling over. When people feel seen and valued, they carry that same warmth into everything they touch. Into our clients, our partners, into every step of a project together. It's why we care as much about how the work feels as how it turns out. We want you to love working with us every bit as much as you love the home we create together.

Because in the end, this has always been about people. The ones on my team and the ones who trust us with their homes.

There's a specific kind of clutter nobody warns you about: 40,000 photos of other people's houses.

Here's the thing about those photos, though. They're the last five percent of the work. The other ninety-five percent happens in conversations about how a family actually lives. Where everyone lands at the end of the day. Which room is always a mess and whether that's a problem to solve or just a fact to design around. What they've been apologizing for every time guests come over.

That's the part that makes a house work, and it's the part a photo can't quite show you.

If you're thinking about a project and want a home built around how you actually live, we'd love to hear about it: https://www.kimberleemarie.com/contact-us/

Every home has a room that gets the good furniture and almost no use. We would rather spend that budget on the counter where homework happens, the corner the dog has claimed, the chair you fall into at the end of a long day.

Those rooms take the most wear and usually get the least thought.

Most remodels get planned around the big moves: Kitchen layout, fireplace location, how much light you can pull into the main floor.

Then you move back in and find out the house actually lives or dies on the small stuff. Whether there's a real place for the books. Whether the bench is deep enough to sit on. Whether the storage fits what your family already owns, or just what looked good in the drawing.

In this Snohomish whole-home remodel, that meant built-ins scaled to how this family actually uses them, a hearth that anchors the room without swallowing it, and materials picked to hold up to daily life rather than to photograph once and then get babied.

If you want that level of attention on the decisions nobody warns you about, let's talk: https://www.kimberleemarie.com/contact-us

Hiring a designer is a strange kind of vulnerability. You're handing over your home, your budget, and a set of preferences you might not have words for yet, and hoping the person on the other side actually gets it.

So when a client says something like this, it lands. Not because we're easily flattered, but because each one signals someone who's ready to let us take it from here.

The projects we're proudest of are the ones where the client tells us what they need and then genuinely lets go. Not because they stopped caring, but because they trusted us enough to stop carrying it.

It is a fair thing to be nervous about. Handing your house to a designer and getting back a version of their taste.

Chasing an aesthetic is the fastest way to make a house look like everyone else's. At KMI, we don't have a signature style. The best homes we've designed don't have much in common... and that's the whole point.

We've guided families through whole-home remodels across the greater Seattle area, and no two have looked alike. That's the part we're proudest of. If that's the kind of home you want, let's talk: https://www.kimberleemarie.com/contact-us/

Every parent knows the cycle... You decorate a room around what your kids love right now, and eighteen months later the dinosaurs are embarrassing, the bunk bed is too small, and you're starting over.

As much as we don't want them to, kids grow. Their rooms should be able to keep up.

Upstairs in our Snohomish Remodel, our clients' four kids each got a room with real personality. From deep navy battens and rustic wood planks to soft florals in pink and peach. Ten years from now, these rooms won't need to be gutted. They'll slowly evolve, with the kids that live there.

You've walked through your house a hundred times thinking something about this isn't working. The kitchen feels tight during the morning rush, there's a room nobody uses, and the layout fights you in a dozen small ways you've stopped noticing but still feel.

Knowing something is wrong is easy. Knowing what to do about it is where most people get stuck. That's the part we take off your plate.

Before a single finish gets selected, we're studying how your family actually moves through the house. Where the bottlenecks are. Which rooms are earning their square footage and which ones aren't. What has to change structurally before anything cosmetic will make a difference.

We've guided families through whole-home remodels across the greater Seattle area, and every one of them started in the same place: a plan to make your home work better for you.

If your home has potential you can feel but can't quite name, we'd love to hear about it. Start here: https://www.kimberleemarie.com/contact-us/

Somewhere along the way, we all got the idea that a house comes with rules. That a dining room has to stay a dining room, and a formal living room has to stay formal. Guess what? It doesn't. It's your house.

In our Snohomish Remodel, the formal dining room was the room nobody was using. It had a table, it had a light fixture, and it sat there while the whole family crowded into a kitchen that was too small for them. So we got rid of it.

We closed it off, extended the kitchen into the space, and tucked a hidden butler's pantry into what was left. The square footage was already in the house, it was just assigned to the wrong room. Homes should be shaped around the people living in them. If a room isn't serving you, you're allowed to change it.

Most families we work with have at least one room they're not sure what to do with. It gets called the "bonus room" and it usually ends up as storage by default.

We think that room is an opportunity...

When your kids are seven, it's hard to guess what they'll want at fifteen. A place to hang out with friends? An art studio? Somewhere to disappear with a laptop and close the door? So upstairs in our Snohomish Remodel, we planned this space to change with them rather than committing it to one purpose.

The pieces are simple. A big worktable that works for crafts, homework, or a group of friends spread across it. Built-in shelving and drawers on both walls for storage that shift as they grow. A seating area for the quieter stretches. The striped ceiling treatment makes the whole vaulted space feel like a hideaway.

If you've got a room that isn't doing anything, let's talk about what it could be: https://www.kimberleemarie.com/contact-us/
