🌿✨ Just Arrived in the Moss Shop ✨🌿

“Carried Home”

There are things growing in here I still don’t have names for.

A living slice of Mount Baker’s forest floor, rich with the mosses, lichens, and tiny mysteries that make Pacific Northwest forests so extraordinary. Tiny mushrooms and a mysterious curled, ruffled growth mingle among the greens. Look closer and there’s another detail, another texture, another little mystery.

For this new Moss Mom Gardens creation, I built a wooden frame around the intact forest landscape and paired it with an antique heavy glass cover on a footed wooden platform. An upcycled treasure holding a living one.

Part natural history cabinet, part enchanted forest. Science and a little woodland mysticism sharing the same space—a glimpse into the ancient forest world of the Pacific Northwest.

This one-of-a-kind living artwork is available for purchase. Message me for pricing and details—and bring a little forest wonder home, with a spritz now and then. 💚

🌿🐙 Mossy Moment of the Day: The Keeper of the Deep 🌊

Some treasures aren’t buried.

Some are tangled in rope, cradled in moss, and guarded by creatures who know the secrets of the sea.

At the heart of this creation lies a magnificent stone, hand-foraged from Mount Baker, accompanied by delicate, trailing moss gathered from the old-growth forests surrounding it.

And guarding this little world of wonder? A fantastic octopus sculpture, lovingly 3D printed and gifted to me by a talented friend! 🐙💚

I love finding ways to bring together nature, art, friendship, and unexpected treasures. There’s something especially magical about combining ancient elements gathered from the wilderness with modern creativity.

A little shipwreck. A little enchanted forest. A little mountain magic.

From the slopes of Mount Baker to the imagined depths of a forgotten sea, every element has a story to tell.

Where moss claims the forgotten. 🌿

🌊 Crab, critters, funk & ferry foraging!

What a gloriously Pacific Northwest weekend!

Seven friends, one vacation rental, and a weekend of salty shenanigans in Port Angeles for the Dungeness Crab & Seafood Festival!

There was fresh seafood, waterfront wandering, a live funk band serving up everything from Uptown Funk to Proud Mary, and plenty of dancing and laughter.

But the festival was only part of the adventure!

We discovered the wonderfully weird world of hooded nudibranchs, including TWO grunnels emerging from a rock! Because apparently even the tiniest creatures of the Salish Sea know how to put on a show.

There was ferry foraging, because I apparently cannot pass up an opportunity to collect a little treasure from nature.

And then there was Mom’s potato salad! 🥔❤️ A proper hometown visit wouldn’t be complete without a little family love and homemade goodness. We added fried chicken and ice cream and turned it into a feast.

We spent time with Mom, laughed ourselves silly playing Heads Up back at the house, watched the rest of Renfield, and filled the weekend with the kind of ridiculous, wonderful moments you can’t plan.

And through it all, there was that familiar feeling of coming home. The Olympic Peninsula, the salt air, the strange little sea creatures, the forests, the ferry rides, and the people who make life so deliciously interesting.

A little wild. A little weird. A whole lot of wonderful.

My kind of weekend. 💙🌲🦀

🍂 Mossy Moment of the Day

The forest is changing its mind about green.

Burgundy oak,
butter-yellow leaves,
cedar turning copper,
lichen clinging silver-green
to fallen branches.

Autumn doesn’t simply fade.
It forages for new colors.

Today’s treasures, gathered from the ground,
waiting to become little living worlds.

Mossy Moment of the Day 🌿🏔️

I drove up to Mount Baker looking for mountains and the last touches of fall foliage before the road closes down for the season.

Of course, I spent half the day looking down.

And look what was waiting there.

Tiny forests within the forest. Moss feathering over stone and fallen wood, miniature canopies rising on red stems, lichen tucked between impossible shades of green, whole little ecosystems growing quietly beneath a landscape enormous enough to make you forget your own size.

This is one of my favorite things about moss.

The closer you look, the bigger the world gets.

I came home with new textures, new colors, new inspiration, and that familiar feeling that nature has been making living art all along.

I’m just lucky enough to notice. 🌿

Moss Mom
Grow slow, die never.

Mossy Moment of the Day 🌿🪿

First, the footsteps.

crunch. crunch. crunch.

Then they appeared.

A field trip of tiny humans approaching one very unimpressed Canadian goose.

Teacher: “Give her a wide berth. Give her lots of space.”

Small voice from the crowd:

“Because if you get too close, they might bite you.”

😂

Today’s lesson:

Respect the goose.

The children know.

Mossy Moment of the Day 🌿🏔️

A fun trip to Mount Baker yielded incredible views, mountain air, and this gorgeous forage!

So many colors, textures and tiny forest treasures gathered into one beautiful pile. 🌿🍂

One of my favorite parts of Moss Mom is discovering what grows in the wild corners of the PNW, then bringing a little of that wonder home to become something entirely new.

Mount Baker, you were good to me. 💚

🌿 Mossy Moment of the Day 💀

Burgandi was Moss Mom’s very first patron. She commissioned the first moss garden I ever sold, and she’s been part of this strange little moss-covered adventure ever since.

So she gets something special.

Every quarter, I swap out her garden for a new seasonal Wonder Piece, a showcase creation where I get to stretch creatively and make something completely new for her.

Her original garden was four tiers, and Burgandi loves the drama of a big, multi-level piece, so for fall I knew I wanted to go there again.

And then I found the skull. 💀

It’s a reverse-flow incense burner, and I fell completely in love with its witchy energy. I built the pedestal and tiers around it, then created this little autumnal world of living moss, stone, lichen, dried botanicals, fallen leaves, roses and a tiny gravestone.

When the incense is lit, smoke slowly spills from the skull’s eye and drifts down through the garden.

It is weird.
It is witchy.
It is wonderfully Moss Mom. 🖤

The latest Wonder Piece was delivered to its rightful home this week, just in time for spooky season.

And Burgandi loved it.

I hope you love it as much as she did. 🍂🌿💀

🍂 Happy Fall from Moss Mom Gardens! 🌿

As we transition from harvest season into cozy, cool days full of pumpkins, fireplace evenings with crackling fires, hot mugs to sip on, and every aching ombré of orange, we’re letting autumn usher us gently into an October vibe.

Cool autumn breezes are officially invited. 🍁🔥☕

Here’s to slowing down, gathering in, wandering the woods, and watching the whole Pacific Northwest turn itself into art.

Happy fall, mossy friends. 🌿🎃🍂

🌿 Mossy Moment of the Day 🌿

Tonight
the moon slipped
into shadow
and emerged
wearing fire.

Some nights
the veil feels thinner. 🌑🔥✨
