Tomorrow, this little dragon will be traveling with me across the ocean to his new home in Mainz, Germany—in the very house where my father was raised. That makes this one feel especially close to my heart.
The request came from Little Mr. S., who decided a dragon was exactly what he wanted. I’ll admit, when I first offered to make one, the project seemed a little daunting. A dragon? Really? Out of of old, odd and wonderful things? But somewhere along the way, the challenge turned into pure fun.
My favorite detail is the little gilded compartment in the heart of the dragon, where Mr. S. can tuck away treasures of his own. I love knowing that as the years go by, this dragon may become the keeper of tiny things that have stories all their own.
