This one is called Second Chances.
She had to go into time out for a while, and was almost completely painted over, but when I gave her a second chance, I saw a glimmer of potential. From that point on, she practically painted herself. A good lesson for life and art. Sometimes second chances make all the difference.

An exercise in painting light and shadow. Practicing a painting like this helps me learn to look and really see how light and shadows work together to make shapes, especially with a monochromatic palette. I love watching how they come to life as I build up the layers.
I'm also learning, as I do more still life paintings, that I prefer them zoomed in and the subjects filling the page. One of many lessons learned from my sketchbook practice!

Periwinkle Primavera

Oh how I love periwinkle blue right now! I can't seem to stop painting with it. This is painted on a piece of cleanup paper, where I wipe the excess paint off my brushes before rinsing them. It adds so much texture and some fun surprises when the background colors peek through.

What do you do when you're wide awake at 4:00 a.m? Get up and paint, of course! I have been wanting to try some different styles of pet portraits, and this idea has been rolling around in my head for a while - combining my florals with the pets. This was a quick one in my sketchbook, just to try it out, see what I think, and decide if it's something I want to pursue further. And of course, our sweet girl is the model, although it was painted from a photo because she will definitely not sit still that long... unless she is sound asleep and snoring.

What do you think? Should I keep exploring this idea?

More sketchbook play, using some Neocolors and colored pencils for details and shading. Paint is my comfort zone but I love these effects that I see in other artist's work, so I'm giving it a try.
