Do your kids bring a packed lunch or do they get their lunch from the school cafeteria?

When I was in elementary school, we had to pack every day — except for Hot Dog Days! Toward the end of my elementary school years, Hot Dog Days were introduced…. Once a month, some parent volunteers would come and make hot dogs for us. For a dollar, we could get a hot dog, a bag of chips, and our usual carton of milk. We loved our Hot Dog Days!!

Once we got to high school, we were able to get our lunch from the cafeteria. It was nice to not have to pack every day, but I always missed those Hot Dog Days!

If your kids are packers, here are some things that can make that a little easier!

Did you know that the Deluxe Multi Cooker has the power and versatility to replace most of the small appliances in your kitchen? It can pressure cook, slow cook, make rice, make Yogurt, sterilize cooking utensils and bottles — it can even Sous vide cook!

Now, if you are like me, you might wonder what sous vide cooking even is. Basically, it’s a French method of cooking food in a water bath. You put the food in a sealed container, then put that container into a a water bath that has been heated to a precise temperature. Everything will be evenly cooked to that precise temperature! Labor Day is just around the corner…. That usually means there’s a picnic or backyard bbq happening somewhere!

Stuck for a dish to bring to share? Try this fruit salsa! So fresh and summery! Use it as a dip with cinnamon chips or as a topping over ice cream! Or maybe serve it over ice cream WITH the cinnamon chips!!

Do you toss your veggie scraps?

With grocery prices the way they are these days, I do what I can to save a few bucks! One of the things I like to do is to save my veggie scraps!

There is always that little bit that you cut off, right? Tops off the onions, the little pieces of carrot, the few leaves of spinach left from your salad mix that never quite made it into your salad, the green beans that have reached the “use it or lose it” stage — anything at all that you chop off of a vegetable can be saved and stored in a freezer container of some kind in the freezer!

When you need some veggie broth, just simmer your left over veggie pieces from your container and viola! Veggie broth! And — it didn’t cost you a cent.
