Fun fact about me: I actually went to art school for concept art and visual development!

Originally, my goal was to go into entertainment illustration, which was a broader category. But all of the classes I needed weren't offered at my campus, so I switched. I didn't end up entering that industry, but I still use a lot of the applicable skills to make the work you see today. I've since moved on from character work to landscapes and backgrounds, but every now and then, you may see a character still pop up.

I was looking through my illustration folder and found this wip from a few years back that depicts how it feels to have a migraine. I don't get them often, but when I do, sometimes it can derail my whole day. I feel like the fact that this is unfinished only emphasizes the point.

Pack some orders with me!

Normally, I do all of my packing during the day, but I had an unusually high number of orders come in this week, so I had to work tonight. I'm not complaining, though. I live for this stuff.

Some of the items ordered were Glass Animals stickers, Stardew Valley stickers, rootin tootin squirrel sticker, and a see ya later alligator button pin.

The postcard and mini prints are on linen paper this month and has a beautiful texture. I always try to find any excuse to use my linen paper.

The bookmark is laminated and double sided.

A closer look at this month's print.

The reference is from the Sunday Market that takes place in L'isle-sur-la-Sorgue, France. I wish I took more photos of the market, but I did include a couple with the letter going out in June.

The original painting was done with watercolors and colored pencils, including the border. But no matter how many times I scanned, took pics, or tweaked it, the digital version looked wrong. So I sat down and painted over it on Procreate. You can still see the original painted base, but it's at least now at a point I wanted it.

As an artist, sometimes I feel guilty when I deviate from the original plan. Like I'm cheating myself out of learning things the hard way to improve. But at the same time, most of us begin with a visual, a final piece imagined, and it feels even worse when the outcome is not that. I'm a big believer in getting to that final vision as long as you are still the one using your skills and creativity to get there. Even if it doesn't turn out the way you hoped, there's always next time.
