We're looking forward to seeing you at the Christmas In July Craft & Vendor Market tomorrow! 🥳😍🤶 We'll have a selection of hand poured candles, simmer pots, dried lavender, and of course FRESH FLOWERS! 🌻💐🌻

I'll be there with my sister who fully understood the theme assignment and is ready with decorated wooden trees of all sizes, and some really awesome hand saw trees!

Yayyyy! 🥳😍 The snapdragons are blooming, and they're GORGEOUS!! 💐 Sunflowers are just a minute behind them too, here come the summer flowers!!! 🥳🌻🥳

I'll have fresh bouquets and various arrangements available at Antique Up in Stevens Point later this week, and we'll also plan to be at the Christmas In July craft fair in Bancroft on Saturday!

I thought this would be a great time to introduce you to the newest employees here at Black Horse!

🦆 Meet Daisy, Daffodil, Beetlejuice, and June Bug! 🦆

These ambitious Muscovy ducks are an important addition to our operation, as they’re our first line of defense against pests that aren’t so kind to our plants and the blooms we intend to share with you! These four gems will soon spend their days mulling between the dahlias and under the sunflowers, digging up Japanese beetle larvae, snacking on slugs, and nabbing other destructors before they can set up shop.

We depend on our Muscovy ducks, as well as other beneficial additions to our gardens, such as 🐞 ladybugs, green lacewings, 🏴‍☠️ minute pirate bugs, even 🔬 microscopic nematodes, to keep bloom destroyers at bay.

We work with nature whenever we can, and these helpful additions are an alternative to pesticides and chemicals, which we avoid at all costs. While synthetic products and fertilizers may lead to an immediate result, it leads to a drawn out problem by weakening the plant and soil overall, causing it to be an even easier snack to the next round of terrors!

Instead, we rely on beneficial insect additions, our ducks, native 🐦 wild birds, as well as a serious (slightly obsessive) focus on improving soil health; things like minerals and microbes help to make a stronger plant, which in turn is less appealing to the destructors, causing them to look elsewhere for a weak, easy meal! Talk about the original 🦗"Bug B-Gon!" 🪲

The new kids are currently about 6-weeks old, and we’ll keep you posted on their progress and work ethic throughout the summer. We may have an early front runner for employee of the month 💪🦆🌼

Woah this last week certainly got away from me, who can relate?! 😅

I'm overdue to highlight my first candle, but I'll consider this one accidentally timed perfectly to match with a new offering we finally have at the booth!

We all have had a time when a voice, a melody, a face, or a smell instantly hits us with a memory, the familiarity that you'd be able to recognize anywhere, any time.

"I'd Know You Anywhere" will bring the classic, comforting smell of lavender to your special space, and may bring you a reminder of people, places, and moments that have stayed with you, long after they've passed 💜

I'm such a fan of lavender in my own home that I started growing lavender myself a number of years ago, and I'm thrilled we finally have gift-worthy dried lavender to offer you!

🪻Mini English Lavender bunches bring a light floral scent to any room, and these cute little bundles are perfect to add to your decor, or even freshen up your closet or drawers!

🪻French Lavender bunches are a classic and can be hung in your shower, used in a bouquet or wreath, or displayed as-is!

Dried lavender keeps its scent for up to a full year, and softly rubbing the stems together can give it a little refreshed fragrance boost when needed 💜

Our lavender is limited, so grab a bunch or two while you can! Available along with our candles at Antique Up - Stevens Point, open Monday through Saturday from 9am to 6pm

Each candle is inspired by one of my favorite memories - memories I'd happily revisit again and again.

I noticed we had a lot of new followers over this past week - WELCOME!! 🥳🤩

I thought this would be a great opportunity for a bit of an introduction. I'm Lyn, and this 👇 is Trip, the black horse behind Black Horse!

When I opted to finally take the leap and make things official to share my flowers and other goodies, I needed a name. I wanted something that represented me, as well as my values, and I didn't want it to sound like any other flower farm out there.

I jotted down a number of words: flowers, florals, blooms, leather, lace, roots, rooted, clover, clover root, then it hit me... Black Horse. That was it, no more thinking, and I knew the exact image I wanted to use as inspiration for my logo and branding (ah hem 👇)

You see, this black horse (excuse me while I grab a tissue), has been in my life for 22 years, longer than I've been married, longer than I've had my trusty ol' dog, longer than I've been out of high school. She's the epitome of grit, but also of grace. Our relationship is unique, but amazing, and I feel we've accomplished all we have together because we're mirror images of each other. Have we driven each other bananas? ABSOLUTELY 😳 But have we understood each other to the core? You betcha.

Integrity, determination, understanding, competitiveness, and maybe just a liiiiitle patience? Well, looking back, maybe a lot of patience. We didn't come on quick, we took the long road learning together and made countless mistakes, but when we did earn that first win, we never looked back. She since taught my family similar lessons, and even raised a few babies of her own to help others achieve their dreams too. She now is the queen of our pastures, and will be until she decides otherwise.

See that's what Black Horse is, built with integrity, determination, patience, and a whole lot of heart. Sure we're still learning, but once we get it, 🔥. We'll pour grit and passion into everything we do, and will try to have grace for ourselves along the way.

Thank you for being here and supporting this adventure. Small business don't exist without people like you, and I'm grateful you're along for the ride. 🐎💐🖤

Spring flowers have a very short, but very sweet, stint to show off before the summer heat kicks in. These gorgeous ranunculus will be the last of the crop until next year 😢

We still have a limited number of mini-vases available at Antique Up - Stevens Point, grab them while you can and add a pop of joy to your desk, table, bookshelf, counter, you-name-it! They're open tonight until 6:00, and through the remainder of the week from 9:00am to 6:00pm, closed Sundays.

While you're there, check out our seasonal candle selection 🥰 some of my most cherished memories have been made into my new favorite scent combinations, and I think you'll agree. Read the labels for a story you can truly smell!
