Last week, I packed up the tools and headed to Cornelius, NC to spend some time working out of my brother’s wood shop — and this is the finished result! 🔨🪵
This dining table was a commissioned piece for some friends who live up there, and they gave me the sizing for the table they wanted while also giving me some freedom when it came to the design. I shared a few photos along the way as the build progressed, but now I can finally show you the finished table!
There’s something pretty special about building a piece of furniture from scratch and knowing it was made specifically for the people and space it’s going into. From milling and building to sanding and finishing, this one was definitely a labor of love.
The table is now in its new home, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. ❤️

This beast of a table is starting to look like a table. Shout out to B.E. Kluttz Lumber for getting the 2 halves of the top flat to make my life a little easier. Follow to see the finished product in a few days (I hope 😂)

It’s always fun when customers give us an idea we haven’t seen before.
A couple of recent customers, completely independent of each other, wanted three cedar planters that could be arranged into a “U” shape. Once we finished building them and lined them up, we thought they looked too good not to share.
We can’t wait to see what they look like once they’re planted and in their new homes, but even unfinished, we think this layout turned out really sharp.
We love seeing the creativity our customers bring to the table!

This order of six custom 5-foot planter boxes marks a pretty cool milestone for us.
Not only is it the largest planter order we’ve completed so far, but while building these we realized we’ve now used over a mile of cedar since starting Matt & Lauren Design.
A mile.
It’s kind of wild to think that all those boards have become planters, flower boxes, signs, gifts, and custom projects that now live in homes across the country.
We’re grateful for every order that has helped us reach this point, and we’re excited to see where the next mile takes us.

We had a customer who wanted the look of traditional flower boxes on her brand-new home, but without drilling into the exterior and potentially affecting her warranty.
So instead of mounting them to the house, we designed a freestanding version with legs that gives her the same beautiful look while keeping the home untouched.
Custom projects like this are some of our favorites because every challenge is an opportunity to create something unique.

Something about mixing planter heights just works 👌🌿
We wrapped up this custom set recently, and the different sizes paired together give it such a clean layered look. Whether they’re on a porch, by an entryway, or out on the patio, it’s a simple way to add a little more character to a space without overdoing it.
Safe to say we’re a little obsessed with how these turned out 😍

There’s just something about simple, handmade pieces that make a house feel a little more like home.
These cedar mason jar vase holders have been a fun one to make lately—each one has its own look, whether it’s the distressed white, the soft blue, or that warm brown with a hint of gray. They’re the kind of piece you can drop on a shelf, add a few flowers, and instantly change the feel of a space.
With Mother’s Day coming up, they also make a really thoughtful gift that feels a bit more personal than the usual store-bought stuff.
