✨SUPPORT HUMAN ARTISTS✨
Hey friends, I think it’s time we have a chat about AI art and graphics, because they are EVERYWHERE. I know you’ve been seeing it too. I’ve been receiving a lot of AI designs from people looking for custom requests recently. People are now reluctant to purchase art in person at events as they can’t tell what’s AI or human made. People are using it to make product art, social media posts, event or market flyers, and beyond.
The goal of this post is to educate and bring awareness to why AI art and graphics are problematic:
❗️IP and Copyright: AI is trained by scraping billions of images and art from the internet, without artist consent or compensation.
❗️Mimicking Artist style: Each artist has a unique style that they have developed over years of practice and training. AI can replicate this and create fake work in the artist’s same style. Resulting in work being created and sold under the guise of being made by the original artist.
❗️Bias and Culture: AI art focuses on western-centric ideals, resulting in work that typically excludes minorities and relies on stereotyping marginalized groups.
❗️Lacks Emotion: AI art lacks the proper elements of art, as it gives you a literal image based on your description. That’s why it always looks off, or things out of place. It lacks the emotion, lived experiences, and human intent that is at the foundation of art.
So when YOU ask AI to make you a graphic or image, it’s using existing artist work and images to make something “new”. That’s art and original designs from artists like me that it’s using, without consent. It’s even worse when you upload the art image with your prompt directly, as YOU single handedly just trained AI to steal that artist’s style.
Asking AI to keep refining or editing the graphic it generated because it was wrong? Congrats, each query change you submitted required immense resources. This is causing a rapid surge in electricity bills and CO2 emissions (causes climate change), and straining our water supplies.
What you can do: Go back to how things were pre-AI and use free design apps like Canva. If you have artists selling items in your shop, coordinate with them to see if they could help you make a design and work out an agreement. Engage with your community, there’s always local school students in art and design, or artists, looking to boost their portfolio and could help make a flyer or event graphic, that’s a true win-win.
Please take a moment to share this, I’d love to spread awareness and bring the Human Artists back into the spotlight🧡
