Jennifer Taylor Design

Jennifer Taylor Design I’m an award-winning interior designer who believes your home should reflect you. Let’s create a home like no other!

I guide you through the decisions with a clear plan and fresh ideas, making the process simple and enjoyable. I’m Jennifer Taylor, an award winning interior designer with over three decades of experience helping clients create homes that feel both beautiful and practical. I believe design should be personal, not cookie cutter. Every project begins with listening to your needs and the way you want

your home to feel. I know firsthand what it is like to go through the process of designing a home. My husband and I recently built our dream home in Monticello, Florida. Even with all my years of experience, I faced the same challenges my clients do including endless decisions and the pressure to get it right. That journey gave me a deeper appreciation for guiding clients through the process with a clear plan. From kitchens and baths to full custom builds, I bring fresh ideas and simplify the many choices that come with creating a home. My clients tell me they value how I make the process easier, break it down step by step and help them feel confident in their decisions. Mu design studio is based in Tallahassee, Florida and love working with clients in Monticello, Thomasville and the surrounding areas. Whether you are updating a longtime family home or starting fresh with new construction, my goal is to make the journey smoother and the outcome classic, timeless and uniquely yours.

Does every room need a “wow” moment? Not necessarily. But I do think every room needs something that gives it personality.

In this dining room, it’s the hand painted cabinet. It added pattern and interest without competing with everything else in the room.

A statement piece doesn’t have to be big or bold. Sometimes it’s simply the one thing that makes a room feel a little less predictable and a lot more personal.

A beautiful kitchen is important, but it also has to work!

When I designed our kitchen, I put just as much thought into what was happening behind the cabinet doors as I did the finishes you see every day.

Here’s a peek at some of the hidden storage that helps keep our kitchen organized and makes it work better for us.

Here’s a decorating rule you can break…Never use dark colors in a small room.

There’s an old decorating rule that says you should avoid dark colors in a small room because they’ll make the space feel even smaller. But making a room look bigger isn’t always the goal.

For this study, we painted the walls and built-in shelves a deep blue rather than trying to lighten everything up. The darker color created the cozy, comfortable feeling we wanted for the space.

Sometimes the best design decision is to embrace the size of a room instead of trying to make it something it isn’t.

It’s not always the most expensive selections that make a home feel special. Sometimes it’s what you do with them.

My guest bath shower is a great example. The white subway tile is simple and classic, but adding the contrasting border gives it so much more interest. Pair that with a patterned shower floor and suddenly a fairly simple bathroom feels completely custom.

These are the kinds of details I think about throughout the design process. Where is it worth spending more and where can we get creative with something simple?

I’m sharing more of these ideas in my latest Design Journal post. Head to the link below to read more...

It can be hard to envision a new bathroom from a floor plan and a collection of samples. That’s why renderings are such an important part of my design process.

During the presentation, my clients get to see how all of the finishes I’ve selected will come together. The cabinetry, tile, countertops, lighting and plumbing fixtures can be difficult to picture when you’re looking at them individually.

There are a lot of decisions that go into designing a bathroom. Being able to actually see the finished space makes those decisions so much easier and gives my clients confidence in the plan before construction begins.

What do I notice within five minutes of walking into a client’s home? I always start with what’s working.

I’m paying attention to the pieces you already own. What do you love? What has meaning? What fits your vision?

Starting fresh doesn’t have to mean starting over.

In this living room, we incorporated an end table and bar cart that were special to my client. Instead of replacing them, we worked them into the new design and selected new pieces that complemented what she already had.

A well designed room shouldn’t feel like everything was purchased at once. It should feel collected, personal and like it belongs to the people who live there.
