I’ve worked on a large project downtown Charleston for a couple of years.

Part of the site was a rail car repair facility that was built in 1850.

The developer is making the building into condos, so the interior structure has to meet modern codes.

The original post and beam material was taken out and was going to be taken to the landfill. Some of this material may have made its way into my truck. 😜

My PM for this job had an antique mirror from his grandmother and asked me to make a frame for it.

This frame is old growth pine, hard, straight….smells like heaven when you cut it….and 175 years old at least.

I tried to leave some of the defects visible so the age is apparent.

I’ve been trying to teach myself how to make jewelry boxes.

These are two of the concepts. Both are primarily white oak on the sides, poplar on the top and bottom, and mahogany accents.

One has a full lift out tray and the other has a half tray designed to be able to slide.

This is a recipe box I made for my daughter. She inherited my mother’s handwitten recipes and wanted an odd size box to keep them in.

The box is strips of white oak that I glued up to make the side walls. The top and bottom are spalted poplar, and the details are mahogany.

I’m deployed to a jobsite now and have a few minutes of downtime. It has dawned on me that I’ve done a bad job of keeping my page up with the projects I’m working on. So I will try to fix that.

I’m starting to get stock ready for the Summerville Oktoberfest (October 5th), that we have a booth at.

The first tray is white oak. The second tray is a mix of white oak and red oak. The last tray is poplar.

These are ready as is, but can also have custom engraving done on them.

Be sure to come and see us on the square the 1st Saturday in October.

I was asked by a friend to create a shadow box for her recently deceased father’s Memorial Flag and his medals and badges from 40 years of service in the Air Force.

This is the final product.

I was asked to make a pair of raised garden containers for a friends mom.

These are usually made out of cedar (expensive!!!) or pressure treated pine (I think this looks crappy).

So for me, the salvaged wood guy, of course they’re made entirely of salvaged oak….mostly white with a little red in the mix.

These have been sealed with clear Thompson’s Water Seal….so should stand up to the weather for years.

Some additional output right before the holidays.

Both trays are poplar finished with Tung oil. The second is a mix of clear poplar and spalted poplar….which I thought worked well with the engraved mountain range.
