Most people know Blue Nest as my design business. What most people don’t know is that the name came from my oldest daughter…and from this house.
When Eva was eight, we moved from a little cul-de-sac where our neighbors had become family into a beautiful custom home. On paper, it was everything you could want. Beautiful finishes, plenty of space, all the things that are supposed to make a house special.

But Eva wasn’t happy there.

She became anxious. She constantly checked the alarm at night and worried someone might break in. I couldn’t understand why this beautiful new house didn’t feel safe to her, so I took her to a counselor.

After spending time with Eva, the counselor told me something I have never forgotten:

“There is nothing wrong with Eva. She’s just been kicked out of her nest.”

And suddenly, it all made sense.

She wasn’t missing a house. She was missing home.

Not long after that, our lives changed dramatically. I went through a divorce, and I found this house for my three girls and me.

It wasn’t the beautiful custom home we’d left behind. But it was ours.

And I became determined to build them a nest.

I worked on it room by room. I filled it with things we loved. But more importantly, we filled it with us. Birthday parties and Christmas mornings. Friends coming through the door. Dogs and messes and laughter. Hard days and really wonderful ones.

While all of that was happening, I was in design school and trying to decide what to call the business I was building.

And I kept thinking about what that counselor had said about Eva.

Her nest.

Eva had been “blue” because she’d lost hers. And I made it my mission to give her, and all three of my girls, a new one.

And so, Blue Nest was born.

There has been an incredible amount of life lived inside these walls.

And now, ten years later, as I prepare to say goodbye to this house, I realize how much of the Blue Nest story began right here.

This was more than my first major renovation.

And I now know that a home isn’t created by finishes; it’s created by the feeling as you walk through the door. 🪺🏡

You know we love a good Before and After ✨. We took a well loved, but dated and not fully functional kitchen and gave it a colorful and bright overhaul 🤩.
