Salvage Garden is at a crossroads.

Every dollar we’ve ever made so far has gone straight back into rent ($33,003 to landlord), utilities ($4,432 to DTE), and basic operating costs. We’ve never paid ourselves, and watching our passion and labor to exist to purely serve extractive systems is exhausting.

We’re looking for a new storefront with little-to-no rent, ideally with an owner who believes in community over profit and is aligned with our values.

If we can’t find that, we’ll need to close Salvage Garden for the foreseeable future once our lease is up.

If you own (or know someone who owns) a vacant storefront in Detroit and wants to support a socialist, community-oriented architectural salvage project in Detroit, please reach out. If you don’t know anyone personally, sharing this post still helps more than you know.

We want to keep prices low, give more items away for free, and stop pouring everything we have into landlords and utilities.
