In Perfect Harmony 🌅 Design meets setting on the North Shore.

From the moment architect Mathew Cummings, Principal and Founder of Cummings Architecture & Interiors , first stood on the site, its potential was undeniable. Perched along New England’s rugged North Shore, the site offers a stunning sequence of views: open ocean, distant glimpses of iconic beaches, rocky outcroppings where waves crash against stone, and a quieter coastline dotted with islands. To Cummings, the landscape already contained the project’s guiding concept.

An Ode to Simplicity 🪵 A mindful expansion distills the spirit of a generational family cabin.

For more than 60 years, a quiet property tucked into the woods on Martha’s Vineyard’s south shore served as a family’s island refuge. Before its recent upgrade by Hutker Architects and Vineyard Construction Services , the property was home to something far simpler: an 800-square-foot cabin hidden among towering pines, built by hand in 1973 with little more than basic tools and a deep respect for the landscape around it.

Returning Home🏡 A Concord retreat reflects a return to roots.

It began, as many great endeavors do, with a simple nudge from family. The homeowner’s sister spotted the listing first: a tear-down on twelve acres in Concord, Massachusetts, where the sisters had been raised. With three young children and a desire for more land, the couple began imagining a different pace of life. The wife, a trained architect, was especially drawn to the prospect of building from scratch. Moving back to Massachusetts offered proximity to extended family and the rare opportunity to shape a home with intention.

In coastal Rhode Island, where salt air drifts through open windows and watercolor skies melt into the horizon, this historic waterfront home was poised for its next chapter. After roughly two decades in the family’s care, it was time to gently reimagine the home for its next season by the sea.
