Fall is always the busiest time of year at Ember + Sage. Supplies are arriving by the pallet. Boxes of wax get stacked wherever I can find room. Scents oils, jars, wicks, you name it. Boxes everywhere. If a day goes by that the delivery driver doesn’t have a delivery for me, he calls me to make sure I’m okay.
Then comes the fun part:
Pouring. Testing. Adjusting. Pouring again.
Second-guess everything.
I don’t like rushing anything. I refuse to do it.
And this year, Fall decided to arrive with a little extra chaos.
Right in the middle of getting ready for the biggest launch of the year, I got dealt a pretty complicated hand that required a lot of time away from the studio to get someone I love dearly taken care of and settled. There may or may not have been a villain involved in making that process considerably more difficult than it needed to be. 😏 But that’s a story for another day. 😅
The important part is that Fall still had to happen.
So while I was spending my days and nights taking care of family, I was spending whatever time I had left working on Fall. And it was ready! Well, I thought it was.
Yesterday, two days before the Fall Collection launch, I realized something horrifying:
I had no Fall photos.
Generic white-background product photos?
Nope.
Not for Fall.
Not for the biggest launch of the year.
So I went hunting.
I found a dead branch in the middle of the road. Perfect.
I remembered seeing a few yellow leaves falling in my mom’s backyard. And apparently I have now reached the point in my life where I’m willing to crawl around on my hands and knees in someone else’s grass, individually picking up leaves for a candle photo. I’m sure the neighbors thought I’d completely lost my mind.
I remembered seeing some acorns in the street outside a friend’s house. I drove over and picked them up off the road.
Apples?
Grocery store.
And those old German books from the 1800s that belonged to my great-grandparents?
Well, obviously those had to be in the photos.
One piece at a time, I built the Fall Collection photo setups from whatever I could find. Got the shots and spent the night editing everything and getting it onto the website.
And this morning, I remembered one tiny little detail…
I hadn’t actually labeled the candles yet.
So my entire day was dedicated to that. Every candle that had been sitting in the vault, patiently curing, waiting for Fall, finally got its label. And after work, the absolutely beautiful, gorgeous, fantastic, unbelievable Whitney from Broken Spoke Boutique came over and helped me finish the job.
Because apparently one person can only do so much. 😂
And that’s the thing I really want you to know:
None of these candles were rushed.
This craziness happened everywhere *around* the candles. The candles themselves got the time they needed. They were formulated carefully, poured in small batches, tested, and cured in our temperature + humidity controlled, century-old vault.
Because that’s the part I refuse to compromise.
So tonight, after an absolutely insane few weeks, I’m looking around at a basement full of finished Fall candles, melts + room sprays…
And somehow, we’re ready.
September 1st. Midnight.
The Ember + Sage Fall Collection officially arrives.
Autumn Leaves
Fireside Leather
October Skies
Praline Pecan Pie
Pumpkin Butter
Pumpkin Spice Latte
Sweater Season
Seven scents. Three ways to enjoy them.
And approximately one million leaves that I personally picked out of the grass. 😂
Welcome to Fall at Ember + Sage.
