Did you know there is more than one kind of sunflower?

Actually, there are dozens of varieties of the popular bloom, but at most flower shops, we carry very specific varieties that are "pollenless".

The favorite here at the HoF is called "Vincent's Choice". You can see that in the photo in the bottom right corner. It has a smaller black center with longer petals. In the upper left corner is "Sunbright", with a larger center and shorter petals. Bottom left is "Sunrich" with a yellow center. And in the fall, we can get "Firewalk", in the upper right corner, with its reddish brown petals that bleeds to golden yellow.

I keep Vincent's Choice in stock daily, except during the Christmas season, as there isn't much call for sunflowers during the holidays. So, if you desire sunflowers for yourself or a loved one, I usually have plenty in stock. I have been known to sell out if I have a rush on them, but that doesn't happen often...I usually buy 50 stems or so at a time.

ATTN all customers that ordered flowers for Beulah Homecoming this weekend...

I am aware that the dance has been rescheduled for Sunday. That changes nothing for me...I'm here late this evening getting all your corsages and bouquets ready for pick up tomorrow. Simply keep the flowers in your refrigerator and they'll stay fresh for several days.

Pick up any time tomorrow between 9am and 3pm EDT.

It's hard to believe that in just over 6 weeks, I'll be elbows deep in my Grinch inspired "Whimsical Holiday Trees". Here is a preview of this year's tree...all natural with a focus on birch bark and pinecones, this design makes a perfect addition to your holiday decor, or...give it to a loved one, as it is a perfect gift!

Even though prices for EVERYTHING have skyrocketed since last year, I have not increased the price...still $48 per tree.

Ordering details will come later...I will begin taking orders the first week of November. The trees will be available for pick up or delivery beginning the Monday before Thanksgiving (Nov 23).

I have recently been asked by some rather observant individuals that have noticed that many days, I get to work very early...sometimes before 7am, but I don't open until 9am. If I get to work so early, why do I open 2 hours later?

Here's a typical morning for me:

What you see below is a shipment or two that came in today. On the right wrapped in the bags (and you can't see nearly all of them) are about 30 foliage plants that must be unwrapped and placed in a basket and arranged on my sales floor. I need to do that before I open.

On the left in the blue buckets are around 300 stems of flowers...all of which have to be processed (stripped of leaves, placed in clean buckets with clean water), and stored in the cooler.

Behind those plants are three boxes of vases that were just delivered that must be unpacked and put on a shelf.

In between those chores, I must order flowers and supplies for the rest of the week, balance my check book (I do this daily so I always know exactly where I stand), and maintain my website, making sure that all products that I have in stock are listed as available.

Then, hopefully before I open, I begin to prepare and design today's delivery orders. I do those each morning so they are good and fresh.

Sometimes, it's actually 9:05 or later before I realize it's time to open. My early mornings are quite busy and time just slips away too fast.

So yeah...you may drive by at 8:45am, see my van parked behind the shop, yet I'm still closed. You might wonder why I haven't opened yet. If you call, knowing I'm physically there, I might not answer because I might be in the cooler and can't hear the phone. I might be in the middle of getting an order ready and just can't answer. Not to mention, my phone stays on silent until at least 8:30am...sometimes later, but ALWAYS on by 9am.

So please...don't think that I'm just sitting in here watching YouTube videos and napping. I'm hard at work, getting ready for the day. And at 9am, I'll be ready for your visit or call!
