Everyone and their mom (literally) is using AI to create photorealistic 3D renderings for their design projects. I’m here for it, but I also think we need to talk clearly about what AI can and cannot do, and where an interior designer fits in among all of this noise.

So let’s get into it 👇

There are seemingly a trillion AI rendering tools out there and all of them claim to be the best, but ChatGPT seems to be the most popular among my clients 😜

In just the past few months, nearly every client has come to me (before ever signing an agreement) with an AI rendering in hand that relays the vision they have in mind 👀

I actually don’t mind this one bit. I use AI the same way at times: for early concepting. Key word = EARLY 👈

There are a handful of things AI can’t do (like actually design a unique space), but today we’re sticking to one point: it can’t get the details right, and that can really mess you up when planning a room.

AI is notorious for shifting a window, resizing a sectional, and changing color tones just to make its output look nicer and more balanced (can you blame it though 🤷‍♀️).

When you rely on an image like this as your source of truth and the room doesn’t come together (the chair is too big, the table is too low) that’s because it’s AI.

Here’s my take: use it to get those early concepts out of your head and onto “paper.” Just don’t skip the designer (or the tape measurer 😅) before you commit to a room.

Are you using AI? Tell me in the comments, and let me know if you’re a homeowner/DIYer or a designer, too! ⬇️⬇️⬇️

The topic of today’s interior trend report is metal finishes ✨

🤷‍♀️ Antique brass is currently everyone’s favorite
👀 Watch out for chrome...it’s coming for us!
😢 My beloved matte black is slowly retiring

Years ago, I was living in Los Angeles running a trend forecasting company with a good friend for fashion companies. Today I am designing homes and can’t help but to consider trends while I’m at it.

Are you ready for chrome?! I truly feel it’s a love it or hate it finish! LMK where you stand below! 👇

Last week was a celebration and the end of an era 🥺🫶

Along with one other Portland-based student, I earned my final Masters Certificate of Interior Design from HSID 🎓

Less than two years ago, I decided to go back to school to refine my design skills and prepare to launch my own design firm. Because of this education, the connections that I developed through the program, and a lot of hard work and grit behind-the-scenes, I am very happy to report that I am, indeed, running a successful (and growing!), design firm 😭🙏💓

My intention is to never lose touch with this school. The HSID community is something so incredibly special. I’ll continue to show up for events and in support of future students as they develop their own skillsets and, who knows, maybe someday I’ll have the opportunity to teach 🤔 …

So here it is! Cheers to completing a very rigorous and rich program and earning this Masters Certificate in Interior Design! 🥂

Well hot dog 😮 Winning Best for the Interior Designer category in the Best of Clark Country annual awards publication has been GOALS since I started my business.

It takes building relationships and reputation, doing good work, and reminding friends and family to vote quite often 😅

Thank you to everyone who took those 22 seconds to click through and cast your vote for me. It truly means more than you know!

Thank you, thank you, thank youuuu! 😘

Recent design projects in motion ✨✨✨

A few projects nearing final wrap up, a few just beginning…it feels like a mimicking of the changing seasons. What beauty there is in process of it all 🙏

Your agent hands you the keys and says “congrats, it’s yours!”

Butttt…the house doesn’t feel finished 👀
It feels sterile, empty, cold.

It’s not in your head. Because new builds start at zero, there is no history, no thoughtful layering, nothing that says “I live here!!”…YET.

The good news? We can remedy this together. Character isn’t something a new house is born with. It’s something we build in, one layer at a time.

Swipe through and lmk below, does this resonate with you? 👇

You’re texts are convincing me that one of my love languages actually is words of affirmation 🥹🫶💘

As the designer, of course I get giddy over the little things and the vision coming to life, but when you, my client, send me messages like these, it truly makes my entire day 🙌

What a gift it is to share in this journey with you!
