15,000+ pieces. 50 wood species. Zero shortcuts.

Every one of these “stones” has to be cut, sanded, shaped, sorted, and placed by hand to create the riverbottom border for this floor.

At some point, this stopped being a flooring project and became a full-blown life decision.

But if it works… it’s going to be ridiculous.

Thirty years ago, I designed this floor for a project that never materialized.

But the idea never really left me.

Now, decades later, I’m finally bringing it to life — one piece at a time. The border alone will include around 50 different wood species, each chosen for color, movement, and depth, slowly blending together like stones along a river bottom.

And the center field?

AAAAA instrument-grade quilted maple.

It’s absolutely gorgeous. The way it plays with light is unlike anything I’ve ever seen — almost like the floor is moving when you walk past it.

Some projects get built right away.

Others wait 30 years… until you’re finally crazy enough to do them right.
