How to Style Shelves Like a Designer ✨

When I step into a space, I immediately begin identifying ways to highlight its fullness and potential. I pay attention to elements like ceiling height, floor space, and natural focal points.

In this design, the shelves sit beside the fireplace so their purpose is to enhance and draw attention to that feature, not compete with it.

When styling your shelves or bookcases, think in intentional groupings:

* Single statement pieces
* Doubles (paired items)
* Triples (layered or clustered accents)

Mix textures and shapes to create balance:

* One bold, oversized piece
* Matching pairs for symmetry
* Layered triples for depth and interest

Because this bookcase was shorter in height, we extended the visual height of the room by incorporating taller pieces at the top creating a more elevated, grand feel.

With tighter shelf spacing, we focused on a thoughtful mix of textures, sizes, and shapes all within a cohesive color palette.

✨ Pro Tip:
Anchor your design with larger statement pieces at the top and bottom, then fill in the middle with smaller doubles and triples for a balanced, curated look.
