Handcrafted Bags with a Personal Touch
I rediscovered my love for sewing four years ago after becoming an empty nester. While working for a cancer foundation, I began making “Port Pillows” to provide comfort for patients undergoing chemotherapy. These small cushions attach to seatbelts, protecting sensitive areas where ports are placed. One day, I decided to create a bag for patients to carry ess
entials to their treatments—before I knew it, I was making bags upon bags. As I refined my designs, I started experimenting with fabrics and liners. Having spent 28 years as a military family with 14 moves, we have experienced many regions of the U.S., and my travels have inspired my fabric selections. In fact, after a recent trip to our beloved Hawaiian Islands, we even purchased an extra suitcase just to bring home more beautiful fabrics. Looking ahead, I’m excited to visit the Southwest, California, and the Midwest, where I’ll continue sourcing unique fabrics to create regionally inspired designs. My work has also expanded to custom orders. A bride recently requested bridal bags for her bridesmaids, each filled with personalized "day-of" essentials. This part of my business continues to grow, and I love collaborating with brides to select fabrics that reflect their personality and style. I’ve also created custom bags for birthday parties, special events, and even several daffodil-printed canvas bags for a ladies' group attending the Nantucket Daffodil Festival. Designing sets of coordinating bags for celebrations, holidays, and special trips is one of the most rewarding aspects of my business.
