Nature’s Printing Press

Nature’s Printing Press I am Margaret Erwin, foraging my neighborhood for leaves, stirring pots of natural dyes, and printing gifts of nature on silk scarves and garments.

It is a joy for me to share this experience with you.

Just sumac, logwood, and a cameraman for a day spent making. 👚 The reveal is done, the tip is finished, and now its good night 😌

Anatomy with Margaret 💁‍♂️🦵
This weeks anatomical model wrap is a thigh, which I am partial to myself 😂Trying a different variety of eucalyptus on this knit top led to a reveal full of beautiful surprises and some great jokes. 🤪🌿

This top was created with sumac and a folded dye blanket instead of my usual roll, giving this reveal a look of its own. 👚👀
And the barking you hear is just one of my dogs offering his review. I think it's safe to say he approves of it too. 😁🐾

This print surprised me in the best way 🌿💗 A reaction between the tenants and iron pulled out this vibrant pink I never could have planned! I'm really glad I stopped with the process long enough to see what it wanted to become! 🍬

Not every botanical print is a winner the first time. 🌿😅
This top already survived two attempts at being saved from the “maybe this belongs in the trash bin” pile and hopefully this is the final rescue. Sometimes the process fights you a little bit and sometimes you’re lucky enough to turn it into something worth keeping. 🍀🚯😁👍

Doing this alongside my granddaughter has been one of the sweetest parts of moving closer to family. 💕 This camisole was printed woth the iconic Japanese Maple 🇯🇵🍁 The spring leaves always print larger, softer, and full of movement in a way that feels a lot harder to recreate at other times of the year. 🌱
Watching these pieces ome to life together makes the whole process feel even more meaningful. Some things reslly do get better when shared across generations 💗

After what felt like unraveling the world's most complicated fabric burrito 🌿😅... this botanically printed top finally opened ip to reveal a logwood dye blanket that oxidized quite a bot along the way. Somehow the end result still tirned out rich, moody and honestly pretty beautiful 😊
