It's almost been a couple of years since I made my original introduction post, so I figured I'd make another!

Some fun facts about me:
I'm 22 and a virgo. I've been married to my husband for almost five years and we have one kid. I'm bisexual and non-binary (happy pride month y'all). I love plants, puzzles, word searches, needlework/fiber arts/textiles, ect.. Honestly, this list could go on and on, I collect hobbies like pokemon.

My name is Jaci, I'm the one person behind Mama J's Crochet and this is the story of my crochet journey. I've relied on many different art forms throughout my life but none of them saved me the way crochet did. I learned the very basics of many fiber arts as a child, including crochet, but it wasn't until I was 20 that I immersed myself into it. It was a few months after a su***de attempt and I was trying to crawl out of the bad spot I was in; I ended up getting some yarn passed down to me and it was way more than I anticipated. As a result, I decided I had to learn right away. I started doing it all the time and everywhere. Pretty soon I was making way more stuff than I wanted to keep, I was just happy to create. So I started selling it and since then I've dove further into educating myself of the wonderful world and history of fiber arts.

I‘ve been wondering about expanding into textile repairs and mending.
I personally have sewn since I was a kid and love repairing rips and such, I’ve made my own patterns, made a prom dress, plushies, bags, pillows, ect. And within this past year I’ve started learning visible mending methods including hand darning. This has easily become something I absolutely adore doing. These pictures are from a simple hand darning practice I did (actually my first, since I don’t have pictures of my others) on some Halloween pajama pants that had a L shaped rip. This stabilized the weak fabric around the rip and patched the hole so it won’t get bigger.

🌸Silver & floral child size purse🌸

Anyone who knows me well, knows that I am environmentally conscious. Companies are constantly producing and there is always people over consuming products. This results in heavy amounts of textile waste, which can harm the ecosystem terribly. I’m extremely passionate about working with second hand materials, when I can, to give them a new life and save more unnecessary waste from the landfill.

This purse was made with secondhand materials. The yarn is a silver bulky acrylic and is lined with quilting cotton inside the purse to prevent any natural stretching. Two beautiful materials that could’ve ended up in the landfill got turned into a cute little purse with a few hours of crocheting and hand stitching!

The bag measures 7”x5” with a 26” strap
