The Dogwood Tree - unknown

The dogwood sheds its crown of white,
A quiet fall of gentle snow,
Into the encroaching edge of night,
Where roots of memory run slow.
I trace the branches, twisted, thin,
That frame the empty, aching air,
And wonder where the pain begins,
And why the spring still blossoms there.

The blossoms fall upon the stone,
And cover up the quiet ground,
But I am never quite alone,
Where silent peace is finally found.
The branches bend but do not break,
They hold the light, they hold the loss,
And in the spring for your sweet sake,
Their blooms return across the moss.

A memorial piece in a 7” heart with dogwood flowers and eucalyptus.
