Salted Oak Home

Salted Oak Home Power tool enthusiast, coffee lover, DIYer.

I am here to let you know that it’s totally possible to have a beautifully decorated, comfortable, purposeful home that serves your family while tackling DIY projects, while not being overrun with all the stuff. We used to live in a 2 bedroom 880sqft house, which is a minimalist’s dream… except 10 years ago, I wasn’t aspiring to be one. I soon found myself with an infant, and oodles of decor and b

aby stuff in the basement, collecting dust.

24 area rugs, 3 kids, and 4 kitchen islands later, I have finally gotten a handle on quality pieces, repurposing items to bring function, design, and organization to spaces, learned how to DIY basically everything to update and renovate 2 houses, and how to find my design style. I am excited to share what I have learned along the way, to encourage you to create a beautifully decorated, functional, welcoming, minimialist-ish home for your whole family! This is the story of how we turned excess area rugs, lamps, salvage doors, antique windows, picture frames, sample paint cans, drop cloths, and power tools, into a minimalist-ish home we love. I hope our story encourages and inspires you to DIY and simplify your house, into a home that serves your family well.

This is supposed to reside in a basement stairwell or on a post in the basement landing placed carefully so you hit yourself on it each time you walk by. We have no basement landing, it’s just a staircase with no room, so this relic is living in the office/craft room. Maybe when the kids move, they’ll fight over which basement it will move to, or it can be the Tritz-hood of the Traveling Pencil Sharpener. L-I-V-I-N, man.

Holy crap, I have new growth on this Hoya.
Is she dusty? Yes.
Is she with disease? Probably.
Is she pushing out new growth despite me assuming she was dead & high maintenance? Yes.
Did I not water her for quite literally 3yrs, and have her in the worst lighting conditions until I decided to give her another try and put her directly under the grow light with adequate water? YES.
Gosh, what a QUEEN.

If you need plants, and I know you do… I’m just saying, you’ve gotta get here.🪴

Played “Is This A W**d, Or Did I Plant That Last Year?” with Max and was happy to report that everything except one hydrangea is alive and well. Including weeds.

We have reached the bittersweet part of summer where it’s False Fall. Sweather weather in the morning, tee with shorts weather in the afternoon. Pumpkin candle in the morning, coconut candle in the afternoon. Fake fireplace on in the morning, ceiling fan tearing it up in the afternoon. The power company is going to do a well check on our house because the AC isn’t running at all. Windows open, sunshine all day, no humidity, crispy & tired plants in my garden. Never ready to let summer go, but I’m ready for a VERY LITTLE BIT of fall. 🥹🏝️🍁
