Before this basement gets drywall, it gets a radon test. Every Iowa basement should.

All 99 Iowa counties sit in the EPA's highest risk zone, and the Iowa Radon Survey found 71.6 percent of homes test above the action level. You cannot see it, smell it, or guess your way around it. A test kit costs less than dinner.

A basement room is not a bedroom until it has a legal egress window, the right ceiling height, and a radon plan. Skip those and it does not count at appraisal and it is not safe.
