Despite not practicing the religion, I graduated from a Quaker University 4 years ago. During my time there, I had the please of becoming acquainted with many aspects of the Friends Church, and their belief in the ability of each human to access “the God in every one.” They preach peace always, and sometimes have completely unprogrammed worship where members worship internally in silence until someone feels compelled to share their heart.⠀

I had the honor of crafting this intimate vow keepsake piece for a Quaker friend who I was fortunate enough to meet during my time at the university. She wanted something simple, so as to complement the minimalist nature of the Quaker lifestyle, yet elegant. We decided on this design of the vows encompasses by two simple olive branches, which symbolize the philosophy of peace which permeates their faith. Then I custom mixed some dark green ink to complement the wood frame to pull it all together. ⠀

Working on project like this makes my heart so happy!

This is a mantra I’ve had to repeat to myself daily; sometimes hourly now that my once packed schedule has freed up quite a bit. I have such a bad habit of equating my worth with how productive I am on any given day, and I internally chastise myself whenever I do something I’ve artificially and arbitrarily deemed “unproductive.” ⠀

It’s hard not to feel like I should be checking off 20 tasks a day now that the world has come to a screeching halt. After all, my excuse was always “when I have time.” I’m pretty certain my schedule hasn’t been this open since before I started school... like, pre-school. ⠀

But I’ve also never experienced a global pandemic before, and it’s new territory for all of us. There’s not really a rule book for any of us, and the severe disruption of a routine can take a heavy toll on your mental health and stability. ⠀

So if you’re not feeling it, binge watch those TV shows (for me right now it’s Brooklyn 99). Take those naps. Play your video games and do puzzles and lounge. When you’re feeling good, clean your house and get some work done and read and exercise. ⠀

But no matter what you are doing, you are still worthy of self-love and respect. 💕

White ink printing on vellum... be still my heart! 💕 Y’all know I had to design a suite to match my brand colors. I had so so so much fun designing and putting together this suite. Would you believe me if I said this whole suite was inspired by a pattern on the floor? Cause it was. Inspiration is super interesting and I wish I understood it more. ⠀

To try to keep things as normal as possible I figured it’d be good to keep on with some routines, like !⠀

I’m Emily, the lettering artist, calligrapher, and designer (and accountant, marketer, web designer, and copywriter) behind Emily Elle Designs. In other words, it’s a one-woman show (for now).⠀

I’ve made lots of fun things throughout the almost 2 years I’ve been doing this. I started out primarily doing handmade and lettered custom wedding signs and home decor signs. I’ve since transitioned into primarily designing and making wedding invitations & stationery, and working with businesses doing live event calligraphy, like in the picture above with Kendra Scott and designing menu/event signs. ⠀

I majored in English in college with a minor in music, and I love love love getting lost in a good book. I’m obsessed with Avatar: The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra, and am certain that I’d be a pretty kickass waterbender.⠀

While I always love hearing from my followers/supporters, I especially want to hear from y’all now! Social distancing sucks, but social media has been a big blessing in that I can still connect with like-minded people all over the world (or city) despite the distance. So drop a comment below or message me and introduce yourself! Who are you and what do you love to do? What strange hobbies do you have? What fandom are you currently obsessed with? I can’t wait to hear from you! ✨

Felt appropriate to officially “cancel” April on my year-at-a-glance page. 🙃 I think the weirdest thing for me right now is the sense of normalcy that’s starting to settle in. I don’t bat an eye at people wearing masks or gloves in person, and I no longer feel self-conscious about donning my own before I enter the grocery store. I don’t even go near the toilet paper aisle. ⠀

I’m a pro at Zoom, Skype, and group FaceTime, and I have a list of games I can play with friends remotely. ⠀

I’m surprised when I hear anything on the radio or news that doesn’t have to deal with the pandemic or current state of affairs in the world. ⠀

It simultaneously feels like this has been happening for months and also that it just started 2 days ago. And the anxiety of not know when this will “end” is slowly (very slowly) fading into the background. ⠀

Have you been feeling this too? What things are you now accustomed to that 3 months ago would have felt very strange?

Wait.... what day is it again?

03/27/2020

Another day, another chalk lettering video. What activities have you been drawn to during this period of slowness in your life?

03/22/2020

I’d be 100% lying if I said this situation weren’t triggering my anxiety, and I’m sure a lot of you can say the same. I’m thankful for the chance to slow down and catch up but it comes at such a potentially high cost that I’m having trouble truly enjoying to the extent that I probably would under better circumstances. Or if Dakota weren’t states away.

Here’s some things I’ve been doing that have helped me ease my anxieties while still practicing social distancing:
✔️ 15 minutes of yoga using Down Dog: Great Yoga Anywhere (free until April 1 for everyone, til July 1 for students and teachers)
✔️ FaceTiming friends and family every day and writing them letters
✔️journaling/writing about my experiences
✔️chalk lettering (see above!)
✔️ home workouts/weights
✔️riding my bike (sometimes with a friend!)
✔️bullet journaling and making lists
✔️ reading books
✔️designing and doodling, both for work and fun

here’s what HASN’T helped:
❌ being glued to my phone, constantly reading articles about the situation
❌ worrying about things that are completely out of my control
❌ feeling guilty for not moving my body enough
❌staying up late & having an irregular sleep schedule

So here’s to more of the former and less of the latter. I really like making these chalk videos, so stay tuned for more of those once the ground dries up. What have you been doing to practice social distancing that’s good for your mental health? What do you want to do less of?

Hey guys. Been a minute, eh? Lots been changing everywhere for everyone. The last few months my business IG hasn’t been a priority for me, but I’m thankful for this community more than ever.

I’m fact, I don’t think I’ve ever been more aware and thankful for the things that I have in life that 9 days ago I was taking for granted: books. A steady income. My health. A supportive family. Green apple licorice. Sunshine. The ability to create.

I’ve also never been more aware of how this isn’t the case for everyone. I’ve been racking my brain trying to think of ways to help my less fortunate neighbors from afar, and honestly, other than monetary donations to people/organizations that are made for this.

I’m still coming up short. But in the meantime, I decided I could at least try to brighten my neighbors’ day a little, as I know we’ve all been a bit more on edge than us usual.

So my friends, what are you thankful for today, this very second? And what words or phrases of encouragement have helped you center yourself lately? With the extra free time I plan on visiting different spots around Wichita and trying to spread a little light. We’re all in this together, even if “together” means something a little different now. Much love to you all 💕

This week I said goodbye to my cute lil apartment. I still have a few small things to move and some deep cleaning, but it’s no longer the place I call home. ⠀

I did a lot of growth in this space. I healed from a past relationship where I was taken advantage of financially, and had enough of my own space to learn how to be in a healthy relationship again. I had a designated space to grow my business. I’ve now kept THREE plants alive for numerous months, which is not something I’ve done before. ⠀

This place gave me the safety to re-examine my position and goals in life, and I will forever be thankful for it.⠀

In re-evaluation my goals in my personal life and my business, I realized I had a lot of stuff lying around that I’ve frankly just outgrown. So I’ve decided to have a sort of “moving sale” if you will, and shred some of those extra things at a very discounted price to you all! My dear IG followers get first pick on what I have. ⠀

I’ve posted all of the items and directions in my Instagram stories, and they’ll be there for another 7 hours before I share it with my Facebook followers and groups. So go check it out and see if there’s anything you or someone you know might want, and message me if you see something you like. ✨ Happy Friday, y’all! ⠀

One of the only good things about this deployment is that I get to make and send cute little packages and cards to Dakota. Of course, I’d make him one even if he were here, but now I actually get to send them in the mail! ✉️

If you’ve been following me for a year+ you know I’m a big fan of Valentine’s Day and puns, and Dakota’s a big fan of dinosaurs 🦖 all of my favorite things in one card for my favorite person!

Dakota’s deployment is certainly one of the more difficult challenges I’ve face mentally and emotionally, but I refuse to let the separation ruin my absolute favorite holiday. Make sure to use today as an opportunity to tell/remind your people you love them! And if you’re reading this, then hey.. I LOVE YOU! Happy Valentine’s Day 🥰

PS - shoutout to Beanie's Home Bakery for those adorable Pokéball heart cookies.

I recently finished this book about how the wide variety of choices and options we face on a daily basis can overwhelm us to the point of fatigue and eventual long term detriment of happiness. ⠀

And when you’re planning a wedding, you have to make A LOT of decisions. Like, a lot a lot. Wedding invitations and stationery aren’t excluded from this, and in fact might require you to make more decision than any other facet of a wedding.

👉🏽 Do I want a pre-made design or custom? A full suite or partial? What wording should I use on each piece? What color of paper? Thickness of paper? Color of envelopes? Euro or square flap envelope? Digital, foil, white ink, or letterpress printing, or maybe a mix of two? What style of stamps and how much postage? When to send everything out? Do I want wax seals and silk ribbon and all the fancy extra stuff? Which vendor to print from for best price and quality? These are just a few of the choices you’ll have to make when it comes to your wedding invitations.

A knowledgeable and experienced wedding vendor can help ease the burden of choices you have to make by filtering out extra information that doesn’t align with your vision. I know where to find the answers to these questions (if I don’t have them already) and provide it to you in a way that makes sense and prevents choice fatigue. I know what’s going to be feasible for your budget that’s still high quality, and that value can save you a lot of time even if it’s more expensive than doing it all yourself.

If you’re engaged and deciding on stationery/invitations, what part of the process is most difficult for you? If you are already married, what would you have done differently? And if you’re a fellow wedding vendor, how do you ease the burden of choice for your clients? Let me know in the comments! 👇🏽
