🛋️According to research by Living Spaces, Kansas designers are reporting a strong Mid-century modern influence on their clients’ current décor preferences. Evoking “cozy functionality,” Mid-century modern is strong on rich wood, bold colors, and geometric design.
The Mid-century modern style ranged from the 1930s through the 1960s and took many “color turns,” creating a rich and varied color palette. Although most people think of retro colors like orange, olive green, and mustard yellow, earth tones also appear in many Mid-century modern designs and bold pastels, deep purple, emerald green, and crimson red. Because of the vast array of colors present in Mid-century decorating, it can be easiest to determine an accent color, then build the rest of the design with neutral earth tones.
Choosing one or two signature Mid-century modern pieces of furniture or artwork to build the design around is key to creating a cohesive feel. Everything else in the design should draw attention to the essential elements.
One of the great things about Mid-century modern décor is it allows our clients to choose the unique signature pieces or color palettes (the fun part) while leaving the task of incorporating those elements into a beautiful and functional finished space to a professional designer.
