And here’s the rest of the story for the live edge coffee table. It is finally done and ready to be given as a wedding present -with the hopes that it’ll be cherished by future generations.
I was extremely careful with the resin pours. Because of the brand of resin I used, I had to wait 48 hours between each pour. And every time I poured more in, it oozed into new cracks and wouldn’t stay full. So I created reservoirs with caulking so I could overfill the big windows. And then it took a loooooong time for that to cure enough to sand smooth. Next came the part I had spent the most time thinking a about: the leveling the table. With one edge 3/4” thick, and the other edge 3” thick, I needed spacers between the legs and table to even it out. I was really happy with the solution I came up with. With that done, was able to focus on finishing the top. I sanded the top down to 600 grit and that made the resin a dark grey color. But with the wipe on poly finish, it immediate became clear. But it took many coats to get the super shiny finish that you see here. This is the shiniest piece of art I’ve ever made.
