Mama Tree Farm, Vermont

Mama Tree Farm, Vermont Mama Tree Farm is dedicated to the wellbeing of people and planet. This page is dedicated to all sentient beings.

We make gluten-free, ancient plant baking mixes, grow cut flowers, and will be growing mood-elevating, non-cannabis herbs using organic, climate-friendly farming practices. The Cojujo Project is the creation of art and design arising from personal embodied experience, modern peer reviewed science, and wisdom outside of Western European contemporary culture, to inspire and support positive reconne

ctions—between humans, humans and their bodies, humans and the planet's beings and abiotic—and well-being for all. Living real is engaging in full sensory living in collaboration with nature and fellow humans. It is face to face connections, real, nutrient rich food, outdoor experiences, live music, theater, and dance, creative expression and art you could touch if the guard would let you. And yes, when you're done reading or posting, turn off your device, experience some full-sensory living, and report back!

Beauty. In all of it. Even watering cans.

With love, for those who do the hard work of growing plants.

Little growing things can bring so much joy when the rest of life can be a struggle.

Share beauty. Create thriving local economies. Buy local flowers! Support your hardworking flower farmers. Especially if they are growing flowers without synthetic fertilizers and pesticides (toxic crap that hurts all of us even when you’re not eating the flowers it affects our soil, water, and every being that comes in contact with them🧐)

Hellebore “petals” are actually sepals that only harden and stop wilting once a central seed pod begins to form. Cutting too early, when stamens are still present, means the bloom is not “woody” or mature enough to support itself, leading to air blockages and rapid shriveling

There are other tricks you can do - stems in boiling water, lancing the stem, plunging it into an ice bath.

But why? Maybe these delicate early blooms need to mature in the frosty flower beds, providing wonder as we walk by, their fortitude to grow in what we humans deem harsh conditions. No need to torture them with boiling water and multiple cuts in order to gaze upon them in what we believe is a cozier home.

Most days the beauty of growing carries me through the overwhelm.

I’m compelled to grow beautiful things, and make my living off it. In the Vermont mountains.
Questionable, certainly not rational, and possibly insane.

Mama Tree Farm cornbread has been a year of recipe, baking and taste tests. Mike Snow of Post Mills Eggs and Grains in Post Mills, Vermont has been organically growing and milling trials of heirloom corn varieties which we’ve been testing for texture, color, and flavor. June vanHouten made me some of her cornbread from her recipe and accidentally did not add sugar. A perfect accident. flipped out over its deliciousness and texture. It’s the winning recipe. I make this cornbread now every few weeks. (And, yes, sprinkle sugar on top) Cut it up and freeze it. When I want a piece, I watm it back up gently with some drops of water to remoisturize, wrap it in tinfoil, and place it on the wood stove or a lidded pot on the stove top on low. Reheats to exact same moist and fluffy cornbread as it was when it came right out of the oven.

The plan is to package up this Mama Tree Farm Cornbread for you late summer or early fall. We’ll be using a different corn flour ground from Floriana corn also grown organically by Mike. Floriana is yellow and red corn, super pretty, and has a delicious corn flavor.

It’s honestly the best cornbread you will ever eat.

The United States is losing 60-75 farms per day and 1 million acres of farmland per year. The percentage of the U.S. workforce employed in farming has dropped from approximately 30%–40% in the early 20th century to less than 2% today. This drastic shift in occupation, often called the “vanishing breed” of farmers, due to industrialization, technological advances, and consolidation.

Small farms (those with less than $350,000 gross cash income or total revenue BEFORE the massive expenses - $274,794 avg- of growing food often leading to little or no profit ) represent 86% of all farms.

Why support small farms?

They drive local economies by creating jobs and supporting local business ,support rural communities by maintaining rural populations, supporting local schools and services, and promote environmental stewardship by improving soil health, reducing reliance on synthetic pesticides, and boost biodiversity. They enhance food security by providing more opportunities to access food and producing a wider array of foods (less single point of failure) , foster crop diversity, and provide direct-to-consumer food, flowers, and herbs.

The average age of a farmer in the US is 57.
40% of all farmland in the US is owned by farmers 65 and older.

Supporting small farms supports you.

Regenerate a farm if you can.
