Terracotta Air‑Dry Clay 🪴
A simple, pantry‑based clay you can tint to look just like natural terracotta.
Ingredients:
2 cups baking soda
1 cup cornstarch
1 1/4 cups water
Terracotta Tint: A few drops red + a tiny drop brown
1. Combine Dry Ingredients
Whisk baking soda and cornstarch together in a saucepan.
Slowly add water and your color mix.
2. Heat & Stir
Place over medium heat.
Stir constantly, scraping the bottom and sides.
Mixture will bubble, then thicken fast.
3. Remove at “Mashed Potato Stage”Cook until it looks like thick, creamy mashed potatoes
(about 8–12 minutes).
Take off heat immediately.
4. Cool Under a Damp ClothTransfer clay to a plate or bowl.
Cover with a damp cloth to keep moisture in.
Rest 10–15 minutes until warm, not hot.
5. Knead Until Smooth
Knead with your hands until soft and pliable.
If sticky, dust hands or surface with a little cornstarch.
Mold into shapes and airdrop in house or in warm sun.
