Episcia are a new favorite. I received several cuttings of this at the meeting last month.
Like African violets, they are also gesneriads but grow with a trailing habit.

In love with this one’s blooms ❤️

Here’s one thing I do know: I will never ever judge someone based on how neglected their plants are.

These are my grandmas plants at her assisted living apartment. I went to go look at them and she said “you’re going to scold me for not watering”

I was like no, no I won’t. YOU are the owner of your plants, and deserve to give them the level of care and attention that works for you.

Personally, I baby my favorite plants but others I will neglect knowingly. AS IS MY RIGHT!

Don’t ever be afraid to show me your plants..I will help you if you ask but not offer my opinion if it’s not wanted.

Neglect your plants. It’s a free country

A friend asked me the other day if I’ve always had a green thumb to which I say HELL NAW 😂😂

My plant journey started about 4 years ago and I knew nothinggggg. Looking back I laugh because I was doing all the wrong things.

But the point of me saying that is this: people are not born with a green thumb, they acquire it through trial and error and by sharpening their ability to observe.

Working at a nursery for 3 years has really expedited the whole process, but I’ve learned a lot from straight up killing plants.

I once had a succulent in a pot in my car and put it on my dashboard in AUGUST because I wanted it to get enough sun while I went to work😂she did not survive

I once put a calathea in my trunk and forgot about it for a week.

I put a jelly bean succulent in a pencil holder cup without a hole in it and then stuck it outside while it rained so it could “get a drink”

I used to spray any plant that had any kind of pest on it, which actually made it worse.

Now, I ID plants for fun in my free time. I am working on writing a guide on plants that grow well in the Houston area 🥰for Zine fest this year. It’s my whole life.

Fail and fail again, and eventually you will succeed. Just KEEP TRYING! And if you need help…you can DM me for free advice or hire me to come out to see your space.

Real question. When is someone inventing a wireless hose? Pulling a 100ft hose around the yard is such a vibe kill.

Real talk..don’t water your in-ground plants every day. Instead, DEEP water every few days. Deep watering is where you soak your yard for 10-15 minutes in each section, encouraging plants to put down deeper roots thus being able to go longer without water.

Plant selection is important too. A lot of my plants simply aren’t surviving because I just don’t have time to keep up with watering this summer. and bussy.
