While I have more cabinets to build to complete my tiny cabin kitchen…I did that! I built it all! All by myself and with a bum thumb! Yes, am tooting my own horn, but for good reason! I am so proud of myself!

The big base cabinet will be installed in the cabin this weekend! All that’s left is plumbing details and hardware.

Just in case anyone was wondering if I inherited my Daddy’s temper…the answer is YES! I absolutely did! I was trying to build drawers in my shop today for cabinets. I measured like 47 times. Got the hardware on and it was 1/4” too wide. I got frustrated and did my best to break the damn drawer. After slamming it and tossing it a few times, it wouldn’t budge, so I took a sledge hammer to it…which worked, but my shin got the backlash 🤬 So yes, I did this to myself…not my finest moment 🤦‍♀️ The good news is, anything I build is pretty freaking solid 😂

I have been working on these base cabinets for a couple weeks as I have time…and I am definitely slower than before “Thumb-gate,” but they are coming along!
Peep that table saw in the background…I still get shaky using it, but I am doing it! I have used it a ton working on these cabinets, so I think we have made peace! I definitely respect it and am far less complacent that I was before 😬

Finally got started building cabinets for our cabin. Bear with me because we have limited space so on the longest area, I am not doing sections…the base will be one piece, but with sections, if that makes sense. My goal is to get the lowers done in the next few weeks, then work on uppers as I get time. Stay tuned!

After what seems like forever, I got a couple hours in the shop today to finish up our kitchen island for the cabin. Everything I do now, takes extra time because we don’t realize how much we use a thumb, until the thumb doesn’t work. But I am learning and adjusting. Just trying to hold a screw in place is challenging. Just a learning curve that I am figuring out. Thanks for all the support and folks continuing to check in. I love and appreciate you all ♥️

UPDATE …on Thumb-Gate vs table saw, 2026 Edition. First, a huge THANK YOU for everyone who has reached out and stuck by me…I see you, love you, and appreciate you more than you will ever know!
The thumb catastrophe is showing signs of healing. I go back tomorrow to see the surgeon. Right now, the tissue is still healing (despite me not following orders). I do not have much hope in it ever being fully functional, but I m very optimistic that I will have some sort of function in the bottom portion…huge win considering the damage! It’s very swollen and looks pretty gnarly, but I see improvement!

That being said, I am reopening my shop. I will be slower, for sure, but that’s on me. My prices will not change as far as labor goes.

Announcement: I am going to have to close down the shop for at least a few weeks due to a significant table saw injury. My sincere apologies for any inconvenience. If you need your projects completed before I am able to get to them, I understand if you need to look elsewhere. Thanks in advance for your understanding. In the meantime, if anyone has a spare, intact thumb laying around, I can see if the surgeon can just do a full replacement 🤣

I finally made it out to the shop this afternoon to finish up the final piece for my son’s new classroom at church! I was able to take one old desk and create a new desk and a beautiful snack area! I can’t wait to finish the other things he has lined up for me and see it all come together in the next week or so!
