Sunday, June 7: today was a low key day, but it also gave us the opportunity to spend down time with some of our older Honduran friends that help us with our house builds. This morning our entire group went out to Valle de Angeles (Valley of Angels). Think “Honduran Gatlinburg” - streets of touristy souvenir shops, cafes, small restaurants, coffee shops, etc. We have been countless times, so we really didn’t need more Honduras magnets or keychains 😂 We were able to treat some of our Honduran friends to an awesome lunch & just spent time talking & laughing together. After Valle we went to church in the community of Montez, a place where we have built houses & distributed food on prior trips. We sat outside on benches for the service, majority of which was in Spanish, but it was a beautiful experience. After church we headed back to the mission house where we stay, and played some card games & soccer with our Honduran worker friends. Tonight for dinner, a local restaurant called Taco Loco came to the mission house & cooked up some AWESOME Honduran food for dinner. This is a highly anticipated meal & once again it did not disappoint. Although it was a slower paced day, it was so awesome to get to spend some quality, non-working time with our local friends! We are SOOO excited about to tomorrow, so BE SURE to check back & see how your support of our small business is going to create a super fun day for a community of kids here 🥳🥳

Saturday, June 6: surprise, yesterday we built two more homes in an area called Santa Cruz Abajo. The home we built was for a man named Jorge, his wife, and 5 young kids. The plot of land was small, and one side was an immediate drop off down the mountain 😳 But. The. View. In the States, people would easily pay more than a million dollars for that view. Because of the plot size, the house could only be 14x16. Let that sit for a minute. A family of 7 living in a house that was about the size of an American living room. But to them, it was a castle. A safe space. A place to call their own.

We also were able to buy lunch of chicken wings, fried chicken, and French fries for all of the team, including the family & their neighbors who helped us build.

It was another incredible day! Today (Sunday) will be low key, a day to rest & recharge. And after a week of 10 house builds & food deliveries, we can all certainly use it!

Friday, June 5: today the group went outside the city to an area called Tamara. Part of the team went to Didasko Children’s Home where they painted the inside of the girls’ dorm, and served all the kids lunch of fried chicken & french fries (their choice 😂). The rest of us divided up into teams to build 2 houses. The house we built was for a grandmother, Reina, who had been living with her grown son & his family. We got some rain while building today, but it was actually welcomed as it helped cool things off a bit, even if only temporarily. And Reina’s grandkids kept us all laughing with their mischievous antics! It was a good day, and two more families now have a safe, dry space to call home ❤️

June 4: today the team divided into two groups…the first small group went to Mi Esperanza so the cosmetology students could practice the skills they have been learning (think manis, pedis, hair washing, fashion hair color, etc.) The rest of us drove out to the countryside to build homes for two families in an area called Santa Anna. We built for a single mom, Sandra, and her 8 year old son, Norlan Yandel (she also has a 17, 16, and 15 year old sons, but they were not home at the time). The house was built in memory of the grandmother of one of our friends on the trip, so that made it more special. The build site was tight, so it took some serious Honras engineering to determine the house size (11x14) & get the corner post squared up, but then we started rolling 💪🏼 We did take a short lunch break today because the mayor of the town brought papusas (a delicious Honduran food) for the two build teams. Our house turned out beautiful & was likely one of the most squared houses that has been built here in a long time 🤩 There were quite a few tears shed, by the new homeowner, but also by our team. The new homeowner told us, “I’ve been praying for years asking God to help me be able to provide a home for my family, and I never lost hope. I always believed He would. And today, He answered my prayer.” We wrapped up the night with a group visit to the Jesus statue (El Picacho). And so tonight, we go to bed a little sore & extremely tired, but even more so grateful & humbled to have been a small part of an answered prayer for Sandra & her family ❤️

June 3: Today our group built two homes in community of Juana de Lainez - we were a part of one of those crews - and delivered food bags to families in the same community. Our home was for an older man, Jose Lazarus, and the site was NOT for the faint of heart. After digging out several serious boulders, we got the corner posts squared up & the house was complete in about 5 hours. There are now 2 more families in that community with new homes, and countless families that didn’t have to worry about where or how they would feed their children tonight. We feel so incredibly fortunate to be a part of this work here, and we cannot thank you enough for helping to make it possible ❤️

We had an awesome first day in Honduras 🇭🇳 We were part of one - of two - house crews that built homes in the community of Mololoa. The family was a mother AND father (very rare here), and their 4 year old daughter, Stacey. The sun was brutal, but in about 6 hours that young family received a safe, dry home to call their own ❤️ Thank you to everyone who has shopped with us this year…..your purchases help make this work possible 🫶🏼
