It’s been a while since I’ve had time to devote to rescues since covid, but this was a fun one I did this summer in slivers of time I had, I thought I’d finally share!
The story starts with a friend purchasing a house, with this lovely gem on the front garden! Oddly she seemed to be looking in the window, so was dubbed Contessa Von Shnoop🤣 henceforth known as Contessa for short.
Anyways..she did not suit my friends garden style, and being broken, she did not have good prospects.
I however loved her on sight! So one generous friend, 3 men to lift her and full trunk later, she was mine!!
I was so excited to restore her I failed to notice we was only 1/2 clothed🤦🏼♀️😬
So after my husband forbade me to place her in our garden until she was properly attired, I got to work!! It was deceptively easy to repair her!!
Thankfully she already had rebar that I could work with to keep her head on. So using the strongest cement adhesive I could find, I reattached her head. Then after brushing loose cement and dust off using a wire brush, and wetting the area I was working on with a bonding agent I used quickset mortar to add and sculpt! I redid the hair over the rebar, filled a large crack in her neck, and went to work on creating the rest of her dress to properly attire the poor lady!
I was quite pleased with how she came out!!
I wanted to give her an aged bronze dress similar to in age and color the Statue of Liberty. So after custom mixing a green and teal paint and giving her a bronze overcoat we placed her in the garden. After looking at her for a few days, and several other bronze statues around town, I realized I hadn’t gone quite as aged as I should have.
So I started custom mixing again and gave her a much darker aged bronze dress.
I am so pleased with how it came out! I even tried to carefully make the aging looking look authentic following the way water would drip, off her dress, chest, and hands.💕 and as always on a frugal budget total of $30
