When BMI was invented in in 1832 - by Belgian statistician, astronomer, and mathematician Adolphe Quetelet no women were involved! it was developed as a sociological tool to define the "average man" (\(l^{\prime }homme\ moyen\)) based on European populations, rather than for medical assessment.
Original Purpose: Quetelet aimed to study human proportions in the 1830s-1850s to create a model for the "social ideal," not to evaluate individual health.
Renaming: The term "Body Mass Index" was coined later by physiologist Ancel Keys in a 1972 Journal of Chronic Diseases study, which promoted it for use in population studies
How come the NHS and the medical Profession still use this Sexist, Non Medical sum of BMI to define whether you are eligible for an operation to rectify a debilitating issue … such as a knee or hip operation…. Living in La La Landfill! #
