This may seem obvious to those who were not raised in chaotic environments and dysfunctional families.
But for those who were raised in less than stable environments, this, was learnt much later in life... if lucky enough to have made it through the chaos & out the other side to have found peace of mind.
When finally deciding to be done with cycles repeating, & choosing a different path to walk, this is something that is learnt over time.
It does not happen overnight once you have left it all behind, because it is not as simple as just 'getting over it & moving on'. In the mind, the rubble of chaos is left there. The trauma of what has been endured takes so much time to work through, process, & heal from. It can feel like a journey that never seems to end; once it has begun.
Working on feeling safe & secure within yourself takes years. Learning new tools to function better to make better choices, for you, & assert boundariesto no longer allow what you once had... that all takes a great deal of work.
Letting go of what was once normal, people & places, & moving through the discomfort & guilt... not a second of doing so is easy at the start; but it does get easier over time.
But the reward that comes from putting in the work, is getting through the storms, to find peace on the other side of the chaos.
