✨We want to hear from you!✨
Q: What has been your experience with grief? What are some things/people you have grieved or continue to grieve?
Staci and I are recording an episode of all about grief and we’d love for you to share your experiences along side us. 🫶
I have personally experienced and continue to experience many different types, stages and symptoms of grief. Not only do I often sit with thoughts and feelings about loved ones who have passed, which I feel is the most commonly acknowledged and talked about type of loss, I also find myself really trying to work through other, less discussed losses. Some weigh more than others, but the loss is still very much present.
For me, the aging of my parents, my nieces and nephews getting older, my own relationship with aging, the distance that continues to grow between me and my siblings, the loss of friendships, my fertility and the idea of having a child, the loss I experienced when ending a 14 year relationship (family, friends, etc), the mistakes that I made as an adolescent that led to losses, and honestly, even the mistakes I make as an adult… the list really goes on for me. 📜
Until pretty recently, I didn’t even recognize that the weight of loss (past, present or future) that I carry/carried around with me was grief. Once I was able to see it all for what it truly was and is, I was able to actually start unpacking it.
“Grief is the experience of coping with loss. Most of us think of grief as happening in the painful period following the death of a loved one. But grief can accompany any event that disrupts or challenges our sense of normalcy or ourselves. This includes the loss of connections that define us.”
You may grieve the loss of:
* A friend, family member, partner or pet
* A marriage, friendship or another form of kinship
* Your home, neighborhood or community
* Your job or career
* Financial stability
* A dream or goal
* Good health
* Your youth
* Fertility
